Second time nursing student

Specializes in Oncology.

Hi, I just want to find out, if there are students that have had a second chance like I did.

Last year (May 18 2006)on my second semester first year in nursing;I received a clinical failure on my med-surg 2 class.I was devastated. Even though I passed my lecture portion of the course I still fail the course.

I decided to appeal but I was not successful. Worse again my school did not allow me to reapply for admission for Fall 2006(deadline was May 15 2006).

Also, I was told that the readmission was not guaranteed; if space was to be available when I reapply in 2007 I would be required to repeat theory and clinical for courses in which I had a C. For the courses which I had a B, I might request a waiver, but with it I would be required to pass the current final with a 76% before the course begins.

In my situation I had a C on Fundamentals I, B on Fundamental II, B on Pharmacology, B on med-surg I, B on Med-surg III, and F on Med-surg II.

On June 5th 2006 I received I phone call that I was officially dropped from the nursing program.

I was distraught and very emotional. But I decided to fight back by checking out and applying to other schools in my areas that would accept transfer students in their program. I realized that I was missing a speech class as a pre-req for many schools I was interested in, so that Summer a enrolled in speech class.

In the Fall 2006 I changed schools and took Statistics and Inorganic Chemistry II to occupy myself.

At the end of the Fall Semester Dec. 2006 I received good news. Two shools have accepted me to transfer in their nursing program.

The first Gave me credits for all my Fundamental(I & II), and Pharmacology.

The second school gave me credit on only one Fundamental(I)class and Pharmacology.

I chose to pick the first school that gave me the best deal. So, I started in January 2007 MED-SURG I after that I took Psychiatry in which I passed both with B's.

Now finally I was able to finish my first year with success.

Next Fall I will take Med surg II and Maternity, and so on Med surg III and IV for Spring 2008.

I wanted to tell my story just to let everyone out there in the same situation that I was last year, that there is still hope and to not give up searching.

Please tell me your story if you had or have a similar situation as mine.

In God we trust.

Congrads:balloons: I am sure that had to seem like the worst time in your life. I did my first app to get into the nursing class, and I was told that i have to finish Micro before i can start. So I am currently enrolled into micro for the summer. I will redo my app at the end of July even though its going to be late, i will do just to get somekind of feedback. I am very happy for you that you didn't let this get you down. Your story is a very encouraging story and im so glad you were able to share it. Good luck to you in the future.

Wow that is a very impressive story, I don't have anything similar to share but wanted to say I admire your determination and your hard work! Kudos to you!!!

You will make a great nurse with the strength alone you possess

I to am a second time nursing student. The first time I was having problems with my ex, but don't have those problems anymore. Of course I had to drop out of the second semester of the LPN program. Lo and behold I applied again and got accepted and start in August. Nothing can hold me back this time. I am determined, and no man nor beast can stop me this time. :rotfl: I will be in the finishing class of 2009. Good luck to everyone who has gotten accepted and to those who are still waiting never give up hope.
