Scrub questions

Published

Hi guys,

I just recently was offered a job at a dental office wrapping supplies/instruments, cleaning rooms etc...and I need scrubs. I start Monday, so online wasn't exactly an option, so I went out to Walmart and got some since it's the only place in town that sells them.

Questions:

1) How is the quality of Walmart scrubs? I bought 2 sets but if they're no good then I can return one and just do a lot of laundry until I can order others online.

2) How many sets of scrubs should I have? I'll be working 4 days a week.

3) If I end up ordering more online, where can I get cheap ones? I don't want to spend any more than $20/item or $40/set (although of course, cheaper would be better) and want cheap or free shipping.

Thanks!

Very cheap sets, $5 shipping.

The Walmart scrubs are good.

You need four sets. You can't wear the same scrubs twice without laundering them. Well, you can, but it's gross.

I wasn't going to wear the same scrubs twice without washing...but I thought maybe I could do wash on like, Tuesday after working Monday and Tuesday and then have fresh scrubs for Wednesday and Thursday. Or something like that.

I mean, I might just go ahead and get some more anyway. I'll be a nurse someday, so they'll be useful at some point in my life, right? And if not as part of a uniform...they're surely comfy pajamas!

Buy a couple of sets. That's a lot of time doing laundry.

:)

Yeah...it does make sense to have some more.

The problem is though that I have to order them online and that will take awhile to get unless I get expedited shipping which is expensive.

But oh well...that's how it has to be since Walmart has a very limited selection! When I went, there were a bunch of XS pants colors (black, indigo, some sort of green, chocolate etc) but only 2 XS shirt colors (black and indigo)...and I'm small (5'4" and 120lbs and I generally wear a 2 in womens clothing and a 3 in juniors with a belt to hold it up, and a small womens shirt which is often too big and a small or medium juniors shirt)...so I have to go with XS!

I've been doing some browsing online, and I've found a bunch of affordable things, but I don't know if they're any good. Many of them are on ebay which I'm a bit wary about (I've had both good and bad experiences ordering clothes off ebay), and then there are some from marcusuniform, allheart, Tafford and Amazon. Where would you suggest?

Also...is it better to buy sets or separates?

I pointed you to Marcus earlier. Tafford is also great and Amazon works with outside suppliers so that can vary.

As to sets or separates, it depends. I wouldn't buy a navy pair of pants and pair it with a navy from a different manufacturer since they won't match. I wear whites and just buy pants or skirts and a lot of tees. I hate scrub tops - they make me look like a pear with feet.

I have to wear scrub tops, that's not negotiable. It was suggested that I wear scrub pants as well, and since I own neither scrubs nor dress pants (well, 1 pair of dress pants, but since they're my only pair, I want to keep them nice), I figured that I would buy the scrubs.

Buy navy pants and print tops that coordinate with them. That way the navies and tops don't need to match exactly and you can mix and match much more easily. If you consider them to be a uniform life is simple.

:)

Hmm...Marcus has a simple mock wrap and flair leg set for $15 with a 5 star rating...I'm thinking maybe 1 of those and then 1 other top? That would put me at 3 pairs of scrub pants and 4 tops. Is that sufficient?

Also, for the set...what color? I was thinking either chocolate or olive...

You can get good name brands at Uniform City dot com and Best of Scrubs dot com. They sell Cherokee, White Swan, and other brands from $7.99 to 16.99 each piece, some are even in petite since you said 5'4".

I find Tafford expensive and not the most reliable. If there is an ALKO store near you they also sell good brands under retail.

Good Luck. The suggestion of a dark solid bottom and print top is good. Also, might want a warm up jacket or two for the chilly days.

Thanks for the suggestions! Petite is no good for me because although I'm only 5'4", I have long legs.

As I said in my OP, Walmart is the only place in town that sells scrubs. The nearest place that has a legitimate scrub shop is about 30 miles away...

I have ordered online and received my order in as little as three days if I remember right. If you order tonight it shouldn't be long before you have your new scrubs.
