Scheduling/Vacations?

I imagine this question is really employer-specific, but was hoping to hear back from NPs about how difficult it is to get solid vacation time. As a floor RN, I'm used to figuring out 3 weeks off in the winter and a 10 day spring and fall trip. This is super important to me. I'm interviewing for an FNP program here in MN and one of the big hesitations I have is if vacations like this will be possible as an FNP? Please tell me if you've been able to negotiate some good travel time!

Thanks!

This is why I could never do the Mon-Fri NP position (which I did when I started out and left after a year). As an ICU NP, I only do 3 12-hr shifts a week and can space my work days to allow up to 7 days off in between. There are 16 full time NP's in our group now and we're still growing - which means we can continue requesting for up to a month vacation if we request months ahead.

A month off? Sweet! I do inpatient work and schedule some weekends which counts as 36 hours in an effort to have more time off without using PTO.

I get 4 weeks vacation. The head partner in my practice does our schedule well in advance. So we had to get our vacations in by October 2014 for vacations for 2015. We can even take 2 weeks off in a row. We have about 10 providers so there is plenty of coverage for vacations.

My current position is 6 weeks PTO plus 1 week for CME. Will be starting a new position in May that is 4 weeks PTO plus 1 week CME. Both I believe have contract language for no more than 2 consecutive weeks off.
