Just applied to my local sheriff's dept for staff nurse. What I heard they are 8 hour shift/40 hours a week with weekend commitment. Hypothetically

if it's your weekend on then you only need to work 3 days on the weekday

for example; M T W Sat Sun if it's your weekend off then you'll be there the following week; M T W Th Fri. But then you'll be there 7 days straight counting back from your weekend on;Sat Sun M T W Th Fri. That's 7 days straight. Wouldn't that be too much? Sorry to confuse everyone. Am I right ? It's a 2p-10p shift. TIA

A week is from Sunday thru saturday. I would think that you would be getting over time, but I think they can still work you.

Boy, I don't know how they're working that without paying over time unless you always work the same days of the week. The 7 days in a row would be rough, esp. in jail.:o

Typically, if you are working the weekend, you would have one day off prior and one day off following your weekend. So if you're working the weekend, you might, for example, work Mon-Thurs, off Friday, work Sat, Sun and then maybe have like Tuesday off. So you're still working just 5 shifts in the work week that starts on Sunday and ends on Saturday.

thanx everyone. just so used to 12 hr shifts and every other weekend.

don't the prisons rotate your sceduale. For example you work some am shifts , then some pm shifts , then some GY shifts rinse and repeat?? I have hear that corrections requires this.

Not all places do that, some places you work your way up to working day shift all the time..we have rotating shifts at our place but we can trade different shifts away. Like if you really like night shift you can trade people their night shifts and the other person gets the shift that you were going to. We have a lot of flexability but I wish that we could bid our shifts by senority but many of the younger staff doesn't want that....think that they will be on night shift all thier life but when we have staff that want nights it doesn't seem that there would be anyone stuck on nights LOL
