Gouda Aphternoon!

Nannie got up 3x last night, and I put her back to bed twice. I didn't hear her (and Tinker didn't hear her) the third time, so when I came down to the den, there was Nannie in the recliner, looking like someone had tossed her down on her side, and her head was hanging over her right shoulder and looked very uncomfortable, but she was still sound asleep. Got her up and washed/dressed/fed/medicated. I put two Tylenol with her meds so she may get sleepy soon.

How about a pleasant non-Nannie anecdote? Yeah! I think I have posted it before, but long ago enough that maybe some of you will be reading it for the first time. What made me think of it was when I started singing to Tinker: "hinka-dinka-doo" I changed it to "Tink-adink-adoo" (like Jimmy Durante).........So! My grandfather took his live-wire 3rd wife (the other two died, one of what my mom used to call Errisipollis [not spelled right, but sound it out]. And the second wife died of leukemia.) So I will henceforth just refer to her as "my grandfather's wife", because she was NO kind of Grandmother-type person.....

Anyway, he took her to a nightclub in Boston to see Jimmy Durante, who she was a big fan of. They were sitting near the stage and she was snapping her fingers and sort of dancing in her seat and singing (sort of quietly) along with one of his songs. He said she needed to come up on stage with him. She really should have gone into show business, but back then, ya know, it wouldn't have gone over well with her family. Although everybody always said she should be in show-business, and they were right. She was so thrilled to be up on stage singing "Hink-adink-adoo" and "We Ain't Got A Barrel of Money", and another song I can't recall. Jimmy and the audience thought she was GREAT! My oldest brother used to refer to her as "Auntie Mame" because she was so lively.

So, wasn't it nice to hear about someone besides you-know-who? That one is asleep now, and the first load of wash is ready to go in the dryer, and a second load of laundry needs to go in the washing machine.....then, oh lawsey-law, the dern dishes will get washed. At least I can be disassociated from the task (except for making sure they are clean!) and enjoy looking out over the back yard while I am being a housewife.

Tinker laid down and groaned a bit which is my cue to put the baby blanket over her. Then she heaves a sigh and goes off to sleep.

Stop chatting, Stars. You know that 3 days worth of dirty dishes are NOT going to wash themselves!

Welcome new microwave! 

An architectural tour in Chicago sounds like fun. I've done 2 different ones via the river, and the "hop-on, hop-off" tours always point out the major landmarks. So interesting, at least, for this small town girl. 

Another mild day here. We rode bikes at the state park. Youngest ds is gradually building his cycling stamina, which is nice to see. Yesterday dh and I removed the weeds from a garden area and planted 3 tea plants. This is part of an experiment through the state extension office. We were given the tea plants with growing instructions. We are to keep a log of how they are doing for the next year, at least. They have similar requirements to blueberries, which seem to do well in our garden. We also have a couple of ornamental camellias, which are the same genus, so fingers crossed, that they survive. 

I started watching a documentary series by PBS about Chicago. Very interesting. 

Several years ago stepson was living in Chicago and I visited him and we took one of the river tours of architecture.  

The croissant dough is resting for 24 hrs. I did make the lasagna with a bechamel  sauce. It was good. And we had birthday cake.
