You won't see sunshine in the morning like you are used to. The sun isn't visible until about noon in San Diego. Scripps has a beautiful campus and facilities.

Hi there! Not sure what you are used to, but I can tell you that it's 9:30 in the morning and I'm sitting at my desk with gorgeous sunshine pouring through the windows! We have sun at 6:30am! :) I'm a native San Diegan, and I can't say enough about how much I love it here.

I did a travel assignment just north of San Diego, in Escondido at Palomar Medical Center, last summer and loved the area. We spent quite a bit of time in San Diego and found alot of things to do. The weather was wonderful and they have great beaches in the area. I would love to go back sometime and do a turn at Scripps as I have heard wonderful things about it.

Thanks for the info. I'm just planning for someplace that might be similar to Hawaii (weather, beaches, Pacific, etc.) yet allow for the benefits of being on the mainland.

I'm from the San Diego area originally---born in Escondido, grew up in Ramona---and while I still miss the weather, I DON'T miss the traffic or the cost of living.

How are nursing salaries there, anyway? Last time I checked (4 years ago when I was visiting down there) they were comparable with what I was making here in Oregon, where the cost of living---while high---is about 2/3 of what it is there.

Just curious. :)

I lived in San Diego for 13 years and loved it. I stayed in the Ocean beach area, which is the cheapest out of the 4 main beaches: Ocean beach, Mission Beach and Pacific Beach and La Jolla.

When you live at the beach. sometimes there are morning clouds and they typically "burn off" in an hour or two. And the month of June is famous for it's

"June gloom", where it might stay cloudy alot because of the california eddy. But it's fanatastic outwise.

I always lived just 2-3 blocks from the ocean and enjoyed a very active outdoor life. It's also a very casual lifestyle at the beaches, which suited me fine. And living at the beach and driving east a little inland for work helps escape the traffic, because most people live further inland and drive west into work, so the majority of rush hour traffic flowed the other way.

I just couldn't afford to buy a house there.....

I grew up in San Diego and part of me misses it very much. I'm half considering going to CA (I'm in KS now) for my nursing school since Cal State schools are surprisingly affordable, but I'm afraid I won't be able to afford to live there. I'd HATE to have to go live with the folks especially since I'll be married by then. Talk about awkward.

Anyway, my favorite parts of town are Mission Hills/Hillcrest, where I grew up, Balboa Park and Coronado. I also loved being 15 minutes from the border -- Rosarito Beach is about 30-45 minutes away and has great food!
