RN transitioning to IR

Hello, just needing opinions/inputs about transitioning to IR. I don't have ICU experience and have been working in Endoscopy 4 years currently and medsurg experience for 3 years.

Is it a must to have an ICU or critical care experience?

Thank you!

It strikes me that the two areas (Endo and IR) are similarly procedure-oriented, and you would mainly be doing moderate sedation for those procedures.  It wouldn't hurt to apply for the position, and see what happens.  Or, you could ask within IR about what the duties would be, and then decide from there.  ICU experience is helpful, yes.  It depends on what is the scope of the IR nurse's duties in that department, as to whether it is a deal-breaker.

Let us know what happens!

I got the job they offered it to me. The job posting that they have is ICU/ER experience preferred. But yet they hired me, I shadowed for a couple of hours and told that they do a lot of moderate sedation over there. I am excited for the new learnings. I hope it would not be a very hard adjustment on the transition.

Congratulations!  IR, to me, was fascinating!  I hope this is a good change for you and for the department!
