I’ve been in the CVICU almost 7 months and now at my hospital there have been several ED jobs that have opened up… can I apply or is that a no-no? I’m the ER is where I’d like to be ideally

Your facility probably has an internal transfer policy in place; you should check it out. Trying to do it earlier than allowed may not make you any managerial friends; I'd recommend working the minimum time PLUS a little bit before moving.

Do you know your facility's policy for transfers?  Most do not even allow for a transfer for one year. There is still plenty to learn in CVICU. Complete your one year there. There will be openings in ER in after you have served your time in CVICU.

This is cyclical if not just plain frequent. You aren't missing out on any opportunity that isn't going to roll back around sooner rather than later.

As others have said, there will be other opportunities, you are likely expected to remain in your current position for a year before transferring. However, you can check with your facility.

 Good luck with your plans!

Yeah. I’m just old and life is short.

On the other hand, the older you get the faster time flies by. Waiting a few months is not much in the grand scheme of things...
