RN Supervisor (weekends ONLY) in LTC/SNF?

Hi, I did a search and didn't find any threads about this. I've seen many ads for Weekend RN Supervisors for LTC/SNFs and I have some questions:

One place I called said as long as an RN was "in the building" for 8 hours on Sat. and Sunday, it didn't matter what hours they worked ( I would LOVE 10 am - 6 pm!) Another place was very strict about it being 7am-3pm both days. Curious what the policy is where you work?

Also, are the hours an RN has to be there for weekends something that varies by state? (I assume it does, but we all know the saying about assuming---hee hee!) Does your facility have more than one RN supervisor on weekends? Do some of them also work during the week?

And, what are your main duties as weekend supervisor? I'm very curious because I've heard of other nurses who pick this up as a second income, and it seems as though it would be very difficult to supervise if you ONLY work weekends and really don't know the residents, the routine, the paperwork, etc?

    Our regulation state an RN is required for a minimal of eight hours in every 24 hours, so, as long as no more than 16 hours pass without an RN scheduled for regular shift length we are covered.

    My weekend RNs work 8 hrs. Personally I'm not picky on what time they work their 8 hrs. 6a-2p, 10am-6p, etc. I'm flexible. They are responsible for competing SNF assessments, wound assessments, handling staff issues such as call ins , IVs if any are due, and just monitoring the unit in general. Once you are orientated to the paperwork and learn the staff it's pretty easy. Normally caring for residents only on the weekend wouldn't work well but with SNF patients you are truly doing a head to toe assessment so having "a fresh set of eyes and ears" on them once a week is actually beneficial because you may see something the full time RN overlooked! Good luck if you decide to pursue it! The pay is great and the job itself is not exceedingly demanding.

    Your job is to make sure that the DON is not contacted during the weekend. Anything else is what you make of it.

    At my facility, RN's are always told that they will just be the " weekend house supervisor". The reality is that when the floor nurses call in on the weekends, they are not replaced. They make the RN weekend supervisor take the station and the med cart. So in addition to working the floor on the weekends as the med nurse, they are also responsible for dealing with all of the weekend supervisor responsibilities.

    I work the floor as a staff nurse during the week and work as the weekend supervisor on my weekend to work. My hours are 10-6:30, but it can be flexible if I need it to be. My duties are taking care of assessments for weekend admissions or hospital returns, doing other assessments that are due, dealing with staffing issues, and helping out with anything that comes up. But a lot of the time I end up getting pulled to work the floor.
