RN to pharmacist???

Published

Hi all,

I'm back again... Just a quick question...I have always kept the whole pharmacist thing in the back of my head....along with vet. tech, vet., and meteorologist..LOL LOL:chuckle Anyways...just wondering if anyone has gone on to become a pharmacist after nursing??? I suppose there isn't too many of you out there...otherwise you would be on the "allpharmacy" board..LOL. Well...I guess I'm just wondering if anyone knows someone who has gone thru pharmacy school. It seems like it would be hard??? Also..for those that know pharmacists personally...do they seem to like their jobs?? I'm just trying to sort out all my options...u know? I wish there was an all online pharmacy program...I'd do that in a heartbeat. I suppose there may be some schools that let you do some of your course work online??? I don't know.....I love healthcare....and most of the time, I love nursing......I just can't help but think that there's something different out there for me. Ok..I'm off to bed....thanks everyone for putting up with my stupid questions....you all are great!!!

I know a tiny bit about pharmacists, not a whole lot though.

Right now there is a pharmacist shortage in this country (though to what extent I dont know).

You asked if it was hard? lol of course it is, its chemistry!

With the shortage it should not be hard to find a good job, I think an average median salary is about $70 a year (of course some places pay more, look on salary.com for your area. Looks like in Ca for example the median salary range is $82K). For 8 years of schooling (not to mention huge student loan debt) I don't happen to think that is a great deal personally.

This is a neat link to different jobs you can get with a degree in Parmacy:

I think it would be an interesting career I just dont know if I want to spend ANOTHER 4 years in school.....lol I would serioulsy doubt you can get a pharmacist degree online though, maybe a few courses, its pretty intense.

Great point marilyn...

Only do it if you have a great need to be in a pharmacy, or if you are just curious (what the hell, right??...:D)

you'd be behind financially...nursing salaries are going up...

Vanguard just increased all new grad pay 2wice last year...They now make 20/hr right out of school...

I started off in Pharmacy School before I switched to nursing. The curriculum at that time was not patient focused, as it is today. The course is 5 years long, if you have no classes after high school. If you have completed your core sciences, then you can complete it in 3 years.

You will be required to take Calculus, Organic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry plus all of the Biology classes. So don't forget about all of the lab time involved. For each lab credit hour, it usually involves about three hours.

But good luck in whatever you decide to do.........................
