Rn New Grad Program

Hello,

I recently got offers from 2 hospitals to start in the OR New Grad training program to start in Feb. 2008. Now, I can't decided which hospital to take. Both are teaching hospital-one is a university based hosital and the other is a world renowed magnet recognized status hospital. Anyone working in Southern Cali knows that these 2 hospitals are UCLA and Cedars Sinai. Need your input on both hospitals if you've worked on either hospitals or if you know someone...need info on benefits, staff, education assistance, etc.

thanks!

Hello,

You are choosing between the two best hospitals in So Cal. In my opinion, you can't & will not go wrong. I am biased for UCLA. I worked there from 2001 to 2006 in out patient as an LVN. I have to admit, I am not familiar with their new grad program but I do love UCLA. The parking is expensive and very inconvenient for employees - yes, even new grads.

You can't go wrong with Cedars and UCLA.

Best wishes

BOTH PROGRAMS ARE 6 MONTHS. AT CEDARS IT'S 2 DAYS IN THE MEDICAL HOSPITAL AND 2 DAYS AT A COLLEGE. THEY SEND YOU TO SCHOOL AND PAY FOR IT WITH AN RN RATE.

I hope you don't mind me chiming in. In my experience, UCLA's parking is much more expensive for employees and is much less convenient than that offered at Cedars for employees, which includes new grads.

I dont know about parking at Cedars, but you are right about UCLA. I pay about $60 a month! and its not premium parking either. It takes me about 10 minutes to walk from parking lot to main hospital.

I just got an offer for a new grad program at Cedars. I am accepting it because of the hospital's reputation and the fact that they will pay 100% of my education if I want to continue on to a Bachelors or Masters program. I did a clinical rotation at UCLA, and yes, the parking is a pain! But don't let that deter you from making a decision. Just listen to your instincts, they usually aren't wrong!

Good Luck!

Hi RN student. Did you wind up taking the new grad job at Cedar's? I will be graduating from my RN program in Decenber and will be flying out to LA to interview with several of the ICU managers for a new grad program starting at the beginning of 2009. How is the pay? How do you like the program, the hospital...basically how is everything? How did you find the hiring process?

Thanks!!
