RMN to USA?

RMN stands for Mental Health RN? or Midfwife?

If so, you will need to make up clinical and theory hours in maternal/peds and adult medicine. You need to have hours in all three areas. Ot the Mental Health area.

And it has to be hours thru an approved school of nursing, not just volunteer hours or work hours.

I have looked into doing this in the UK but it means retraining completely. I am prepared to do this but I would rather do it in the States. I have looked at doing the LPN training which is more maneagable in terms of funding myself as I believe it is only a 1 year course and then doing a LPN to RN course whilst working as an LPN. Or is it possible in the US to simply train in specific areas to gain enough hours? Let me know if you have any thoughts on this. Thanks again.

I don't think you will get a job/visa for LPN you need to be RN. I think on the international forum this has been asked before due to changes in UK training and another potion is fund yourself with a nursing school (accredited) and make your hours/subjects that way. Have a search in the international forum and see what comes up

Forget the LPN route, you will be unable to get a visa going that route for many years to work over here. RNs are fast-tracked for gren cards over here.

You just need to make up the clinical and theory hours in the two areas that you are lacking. :)

Yes I realise this, I will look into the RN route too, however I'm also applying for a green card through the lottery system as I was not born in the UK I can apply (unfortunately not till September) so the LPN route is an option in the million to one chance I get one!

Do you have any ideas as to how much RN training is in the US.?

You have just a couple of classes to make up, not the whole program.....

Where were you actually born?

In Switzerland, and it seems from the usa embassy website it goes on where you were born, not on residency. The other problem is my husband is British so we have to apply together from my country of birth, so even if I make up classes here I don't think he would be able to get a visa. Its all very complicated and mainly dependent on the lottery so our chances are really quite slim but we'll give it a try anyway. If it comes off then money permitting I'll look into making up the classes as this would really be a better option. If not, here's hoping that the US will one day acknowledge mental health training on its own!

Can anyone help, I'm a qualified RMN desperate to work in the US. I see from some of you guys that you have managed to pass the exams and are awaiting interviews. I need to know if you know what conversion courses are available to become an RN equivalent, is it a case of retraining completely to RMN or are there other options?

I would be grateful for any advice.

hi, i am an RMN, read ur thread as i wanted to work in florida last year n although i don't want to now i did sart my RGN conversion at uni to go. however i have since heard that it is only the nursing agencies that state u need the RN liscence, and infact if you apply directly to psych hospitals in some states u m ay get a post, u will still need to pass N clex, but if i were u i would try direct states i know someone that is trying for atlanta so give it a go... i understand the frustration its annoying because mental health is the area u want to work in not general over there! good luck...there may be hope!!
