RMN moving to sydney!! help!
Hi! i am an RMN currently working with adolescents with mental health issues, anyway i am wanting to emmigrate to Australia and am looking for any tips on the best way to look for work as an rmn. I am not sure whether to go through an agency and they will deal with my visa etc or apply for jobs directly to hospitals and sort out the visa myself online. I can see pluses and minuses to getting an agency to do it for me.Do u know of any helpful tips or anyone who has moved to Aus and if they enjoy it aswell? i will be grateful for handy hints cheers! :balloons:

RMN to USA?
hi, i am an RMN, read ur thread as i wanted to work in florida last year n although i don't want to now i did sart my RGN conversion at uni to go. however i have since heard that it is only the nursing agencies that state u need the RN liscence, and infact if you apply directly to psych hospitals in some states u m ay get a post, u will still need to pass N clex, but if i were u i would try direct states i know someone that is trying for atlanta so give it a go... i understand the frustration its annoying because mental health is the area u want to work in not general over there! good luck...there may be hope!!

any uk nurses working in Florida?
Thanks for that info, yeah I think I am going to have to do some serious begging, even at my uni. I may just approach the midwifery section and child head and do it that way asI am covering all the theory, we're just not getting the 20 and 20 clinical experince. I mean it's only 4 weeks in total! not alot really to do extra.I may be getting a 'health visiting' placement for 4 weeks I wonder if that would cover child and maternity? what do u think, they deal with baby's and children do they not! Even requesting that placement instead of district nurse placement is proving difficult. It seems places are so few, espescially for adult nurses. Anyway, I am going to plod on, alrady I am looking at NCLEX stuf, loads to learn but worth it, can't wait to go to FLorida!!!:) thanks, if u can let e know if u think health visiting placement might cover it please let me know thanks jules

any uk nurses working in Florida?
HI Thanks for reply! yeah well I don't think I'm going t have 20 and 20 hours of paeds or maternity, I'm an RMN already so I've got psych component. Napier Uni where I'm studying in Edinburgh don't seem to be able to offer me these clinical hours I need so I'm thinking of approaching Dundee Uni and asking them. Can I ask what nursing uni did you study through in Scotland? What Uni did you appraoch to do your extra hours? and did you have to pay etc. That is my only problem I want to find out how to solve. Well done getting so far to sit Nclex, and good luck with exam.I so want to go to Florida too. As I'm studying just now I haven't quite decided what area I want to go into. look forward to hearing your info thanks jules:)

any uk nurses working in Florida?
Hi! I was wondering if there are any uk nurses who have qualified in the last 3 years who have managed to get to work in Florida? It would be great if you could let me know how you did it, also that your nursing transcript from your university fitted all the requirements that USA wanted. The reason I ask is I am on the new adult diploma course and although my tutors say I complete all the requirements for nursing in the uk, I wonder about for the US. I may get a placement with children, however I may not, this concerns me as I do I get the correct experience.Although I worked with children in Psychiatry as a staff nurse. I was an RMN before doing my conversion course.Anyway any helpful hints on travelling to work in the states would be appriciated. I am not sure wether its best to go through an agency or look myself by approaching hospitals in the states? look forward to hearing from a uk nurse thanks jules:)

Florida Nurses Salary
HI! Just to change the subject completely I came across your posting and I would like to ask you about the position I am in. I too want to relocate to Florida, I am an RMN and currently converting into Adult nursing RGN. However I do not have paediartic or matenity placements in my training ( nor do the 3 year RGN diploma nurses now). Anyway,I have been told by an agency that do I need to have these in order to sit the CGFNS exam does Florida require us to sit the CGFNS exam? I realise we have to sit the NClex. Good luck on that! Also can I ask you are you going through an agency to sit the NCLEX and rellocating? If so how long will it take you to move out there once you've passed the NCLEX? Is the NCLEX tough? Can nurses sit it a few times and is it expensive. Sorry I realise this is a long set of questions but I have been bombarded with different views. I would be really gratefull if you could get back to me on this subject thanks and the best of luck for exam! jules

LPN in the UK
HI Unfortunatly yout LPN lisence does not account for much over here, but it may get you ino a university to do your nurse training or something. I was wondering, I really want to work in Florida, I am an RMN doing my RGN conversion training at the moment but I do not apparently have any Paediatric or maternity care placements.Anyway to cut a long story short I have thought about going over and trying to get work as an LPN, then maybe get sponsorship over there to finish the parts I havent done in my training. DO you think I could get immigration and would they accept a UK nurse coming over as an LPN? What I mean is I know Us want RNs urgently but could I get work over there.I am getting frustrated with the difficulty of working in the states, its not like going to Australia where I could work tommorow if I wanted to.It would be great if you could let me know thaks jles

Leaving the UK for greener pastures
Hi I wondered if I could ask you, I too want to relocate to Florida,Iam on my coversion course from RMN to RGN at the moment. I have friends in Florida and I really want to go there. I have been on the phone to nursing agencies and some have said in order for me to sit the CGFNS exam I need to have completed both paediatrics and maternity placements. Can you tell me if this is true? Also I read that Florida may not require CGFNS but only NCLEX. There are so many conflicting rumours I am not sure what to do.I have wondered about going across there and approaching hospitals myself and trying to sit exams over there.Anyway, I am rambling now but it would be grest if you could tell me what route you took.Anyway good luck in the Sunshine state! jules

Nursing students wanting to work in the US?
Hi I can empathise, I too am wanting to work in the states, I am on my adult conversion course from RMN, I have been informed that I need to have done a paediatric placement and maternity one too.Not sure what to do, I suppose like you I will need to ask my tutor how I go about it.Not sure if she will be happy as it does not look great wanting to bugger off to states but so what, NHS sucks, I've worked in it for long enough! let us know hhow you get on about your course.
