Rinse back amount

We do 500 at my facility.

For just the rinse back? Or is the prime included? I've been told prime is 200

When I was employed by Fresenius recently, I was taught 500 ml total for prime and rinse back.

I guess it depends on how heavy your rinseback is. The prime is easy to figure out - just look at your bag when you're done priming the lines. How much did you use (minus the little bit that ends up in the bucket)?

I find it hard to believe that the lines hold more than 300 ml, so 500 must include a pretty heavy rinse back.

Depends on the type of lines you use and what your facility or manufacturer recommends. We use Streamline now and they require a rinseback of 300. For me personally I calculate the goal using a rinseback of 400. That way I can just rinseback until the lines are clear and usually that happens somewhere between 300-400cc. It's not super exact but the purpose of rinsing back is to return blood so thats what I do.

We do 200 to put them on and 300 rinse back. So we just add 500 to the goal to be pulled off.

My p and p says 300cc for rinseback, and another 300cc for the prime. If you think about it, it makes sense. 50cc for the arterial line, 250cc for the rest of the lines and dialyzer, at least with Fresenius' supplies...also, I rinse them back until clear or pink. Especially is the HGB is low. I add it to the goal, of course, if I know this to be the case. So, 600cc added to the goal for most patients.

It depends on the lines that your company is using. If combiset lines are longer of course more saline, of streamlines lines are shorter, so less saline for priming and flushing
