Returning to work - need info in St Louis!

U.S.A. Missouri

Published

Hi all,

I am getting ready to go back to work as an RN after being home for several years with my children. I am near St. Louis. I am looking for a place that I can be proud to work for - does any place like this exist in this area? :) Right now I am not sure if I will look at hospital, NH or what. I have mostly worked Home Health. Specifics about JMH in Festus or St. Anthony's would be appreciated if you have them! Thanks so much for any input!

Welcome!

I am actually from Festus, but I moved out to my current location with my (now) military hubby right after graduation so I never worked as a RN in any of the hospitals. Both JMH and St. Anthony's have a home health component, and I have known of family/friends that have worked at both locations. I have heard both good and bad about both facilities, but I honestly can't give you specifics about what was good/bad about each. You might expect pay to be lower than what you would get at bigger hospitals, such as BJC or SSM facilities. Of course, this is just speculation. Contact the nurse recruiter at the hospitals you are interested in and let them know you would like to shadow. You might get a better feel for the hospital, it's nurses, and especially the atmosphere. Best of luck to you!

BeccaznRN - Thanks so much for replying. I am actually in Festus! I never thought about asking to shadow - that is a great idea. Thanks again!

Addtionally, SSM St. Joseph's is moving to their new facility in March '09 (newest date I just heard) at 141 and Bowles in Fenton. That's still fairly close in proximity and gives you one additional option. I believe they are still hiring and having done clinicals in SSM facilities, they seem to be a pretty good employer. Tenet Des Peres near Meramec is also hiring I believe...

I don't know much about home health...definately call recruiters at the facilities you are interested in. From a student perspective, they have all been VERY helpful and always willing to talk to potential new RNs!!

Best wishes!!
