returning to Nursing

Published

Hi I am returning to nursing after being away for 10 years. I need to take refresher course so that I can retake the boards. I live in Florida and wondered if anyone knew of a course. thanks

There is a refresher course in Lake worth FL the name is Capscare,it is a refresher course for RNs and LPNs I was a re-enrty LPN and took this course, It was great! They have either an online or classroom course. There is also a clinical portion of 100 hours. You can also check out nurse refresher through Kane seminars they offer a one day course highlighting procedures ie: trach care

, foleys, ivs etc, i did take that course as well. they do have a web site so take a minute and check it out iam sure it is what you are looking for. The instructor is AWESOME! Good luck and keep me updated

Hi pip123,

Welcome back to nursing. First check with your state

BON for rules and accredited programs. Then, look at

The support systems in place and clinical options. I would

NOT choose a program without clinicals. The other thing

I wanted to mention there are many other states

That do not require a NCLEX retake. For instance you could

Do our texas refresher with a temp permit for clinicals

For clinicals then do Endorsement back to FL if you wanted. I'm sure

There are options in FL I remember one that is like Brookhaven or similar name.

At any rate investigate your options. Good luck.

Here in Oklahoma refresher courses are offered at three sites. It costs about $2500 and requires about 70 hours of lecture, 10 or more hours in the skills lab, and 80 plus hours in a clinical setting. I've been out since 1997 due to a disability but want to reinstate my license. Taking the refresher precludes taking boards. I would never want to do that again!

Thanks Everone foe your .I will have to check to see if I have to have a refresher course here in my state. Thanks again all.:)

OMG is it hard to get a job after being out. Even if you do some travel or pool do it. The refresher courses are good but getting back to clinical is definitely a challenge if you have been out they want recent 1 yr experience. You may have to take something your not that happy with and move from there after you are back in the swing. Good luck guys.
