Returning to Nursing school

Published

After 2 years of trying to get into NS I was finally accepted for the fall 2007 semester. After one month I dropped out stating that it was not for me - in reality I have so many things going on that I could not get into it.

I have decided to go back to finish my bachelors in Sociology just because I started in 1991 and I now only have 5 classes to take.

I am thinking of trying NS out again after I get my degree. Has anybody dropped out of nursing school and then returned to finish and work at a nurse?

Thanks

Hello,

I dropped out of nursing school in Feb 05 because of stress. I am now in an Adn program and will graduate in May 08. Nursing kept calling to me. I am meant to be a nurse. You can do this. It is not easy, but it can be done.

Take care and follow your heart

If you finish the sociology degree, you'll no longer qualify for grants.

I started out doing nursing in 1998 and I changed majors and graduated with a BA in communications in 2003. It's funny because before I changed to communications I also majored in sociology for a minute.

I am graduating from an LPN program this December and will go for the RN through Excelsior in '08.

I have followed your story for a long time and I think at this point you should just finish the B.A and try for an ABSN program since you have all the pre-req's done.

That's fine - I do not qualify now for grants.

I know in my area (North Ca) that people who have another degree can get into an advanced program to get their BSN. I wish I had a degree already and then I could possibly be a nurse sooner. I just turned 40 and I am bummed it took so long to get into Nursing school, but I am here now and I am really working hard to succeed. I wish you luck on whatever you decide. A degree, no matter what it is in, is a big accomplishment and you should pat yourself on the back. Maybe having the other degree under your belt will be incentive to go for the nursing degree. Don't beat yourself up over the decisions you have made. You are still young and can go after whatever you want.

Best of luck,

Jean

Will you have those things under control the next time you apply for nursing school?

I used to keep in touch with a poster here who dropped out of an RN programme in the 80's, debated going PN or RN and decided to go for her RN. She was "meant" to be a nurse. The issues that forced her to drop out 25 years ago were the same issues that caused her to drop out this year.

So, ultimately, only you can decide if your life is under control and your expectations are realistic.
