OK, I need some advice. I am currently a BSN working in a non-clinical nursing position (QA). I also have a side job working on a skilled unit at a LTC facility. It has been 10 years since I have worked in a hospital in a clinical position. But since then I have worked Home Health, Dr. Office, LTC, QA. Where do you suggest I start. Clinically I have experience in Med/Surg. ER and ICU, but as you can see that was some time ago. Any Suggestions.

Why are you returning to clinical nursing?
I guess I want to do both clinical nursing and administrative. I have always wanted to do OB and I get such a feeling of reward just knowing I've helped someone. But to be honest, the weekends, holidays off are really nice. But I do miss the clinical. I'm also tired of clinical nurses looking down their nose at me because i'm not a "real nurse" anymore. You'd be suprised how often I hear that.

They might appear to be looking down their noses at you, but I'm betting that they're jealous of your position, and this is how they choose to express it. Not unheard of in nursing. I've been told I'm not really a critical-care nurse because I work with babies and not big people. Whatever. I bet if they were handed a 450 gram baby that wasn't breathing and had a HR of 30, they'd be looking for me to save their butts. "Feeding and rocking babies", which according to them is all I do, would turn into critical care REALLY FAST!!
If nurses would spend more time banding together and less time tearing each other apart, nursing would be a much better career.

I hope you'll find something you love! I suggest trying an area a bit specialized.
It's hard to go back to the floor...at least is was for me. The skills, the treatments, the mind stimulation, and the patients are wonderful, but the working conditions and morale are almost unbearable to return to. (I'm just being honest about how it was for me and mean no disrespect to anyone at all.)

just a suggestion.......... have you thought of an RN Refresher course?:)
I have been away from bedside nursing for 7 years , I completed a refresher course and returned to clinical acute care , I hear you,,,,,,,some things never change, the same complaints, the same problems, somethings never change! unfortunately, We must pass safe staffing legislation i believe it would be the beginning of a positive change for nurses.:)
