I will be entering my final quarter of nursing school after the holidays and hope to complete everything by mid-March. I was just wondering, when did you start sending out resumes to employers? I want to get working as soon as I pass my boards, but I don't want to jump the gun either. Any recommendations?
Thanks in advance!

You can start looking at the job boards now. Maybe start sending those resumes out in February or so. I graduated at the end of November & some folks started sending them out in late September, early October with some good results. Others waited until November & got jobs easily too, so it just depends.

I think it really depends on the hospital. Around here, they told us to start sending ours out by the end of November to have a better chance at getting the new grad position we want. I sent mine out about 3 weeks ago and I have a job interview this coming Tuesday. I graduate May 08. I know some hospitals won't look at May graduates yet, but the really competitive ones tend to hire early.

I sent mine out a week ago, still working on my back up applications. As somone else said it depends on where you leave and the hospitals you are interested in. The hospital I want to work in has a WAITLIST for new grads now, so... A friend of mine applied a month before graduation and was not able to get into the unit she really wanted.
PS: I started a thread on Spring (May/June) 2008 graduates. Visit the site and see more replies. It would help people like me and you to have and idea of what others are doing. Good luck with your last semester, we are almost done. Yuppie!

I sent all of mine out early...and got many letters saying "thank you for your resume...please be sure to update us when you have graduated/passed boards"
Unless you already have connections...I don't think it helps much to send them out that early.

I spoke to the local hospitals at a job fair and told them when I was graduating and asked when they would recommend I apply for jobs. I graduated in November and they recommended I start applying around the end of August. I got an interview in October and accepted a position. Most of my friends applied in August-October and had positions lined up by the time we graduated.
