Ok I was at my present job for 7 months, I worked in a clinic, seemed to be doing well, went in extra, etc. etc. any way on friday I get a call from my NM. seems that 2 docters went to the Medical Director with concerns about my nursing skills. ( they would not elaborate ) I have been a nurse for 15 years, and was told that 2 docters did not want to work with me alone on weekends. we only have one nurse on weekends, during the week there are 1 rn or lvn and a ma. They would not give me any specific details as to what the concerns were nor was I asked for my side of the situation, so I resigned the more I think about it the madder I get. I am almost done with my PNP program, and I admit on a couple of occassions I did bring up current guidelines that were not being followed. So what do I do just move on, another nurse told me that the Med director was looking to replace some RNs with MA's to save $$. Since I was the last one hired first to go.

i can't tell you HOW many times this sort of thing has happened to people who are in grad school. not even kidding...

Sounds to me like you got suckerpunched. Best to just move on. Approach your nurse manager for a letter of reference and get a job elsewhere. Good luck to you.

So I hear, any way I have a good idea which docter complained. She told me that I had to remove the nailpolish in order to get a accurate o2 sat, I nicely told her no that was not true, that there had been actual research done and that you would get a accurate o2 reading with nail polish on. she huffed and puffed and pretty much told me I was out of my ever loving mind.

well, it doesn't seem likely that 2 Docs would complain about something so minor... but if that was it, maybe just give in and remove the nail polish?? Is it really worth losing your job over?
And this is why you lost your job? Heavens! I hate to think how they would react to a real problem. Probably in your best interest to move on. Someday, maybe not tomorrow, you will be able to look back and laugh at this. I hope. Those doctors should be ashamed of themselves.

Pull out the research for them. You know how docs are with that evidence based medicine, lol!
here is the rest of the story, our clinic had no nail polish remover pads or nail polish remover, she wanted me to go get some, that would not have been a problem but we were already 3 hours behind in seeing patients, really I would put a kid in a room and it would be three hours before they were seen. So I had parents yelling at me because they were waiting for a minor problem. We had a doc on call if we got swamped but she refused to call her for backup:icon_roll. So I dont know if the med director caught wind of it and came down on her and she made me the scapegoat. I did find out this morning that only 1 MD had a complaint and it came right after this little incident. So I am moving on, go and find something more of a challenge finish school and live my life.:flwrhrts:

L:lol2:VE IT Zenman!!
Sounds like you have a great positive attitude!! Not to let a tough situation get you down!
that is STUPID! OMG! i would have said "i'll go pick some up later, but is it critical right now? so and so has been waiting for three hours."
she may have felt that you tried to "one up" her by telling her she was wrong in front of a patient. oh well... if i had been her and didn't know it, she could have responded kindly and said "i never heard this, i thought that nailpolish would cause a falsely high reading..."
I would have offered to do it on the kids ear, toe, whatever if that made her happy at that point!!
no i did not say this in front of a patient. i did offer to use the toe (nail polish there too) and the ear, no that was not good enough either. she finally said well never mind she is not wheezing so i am not going to worry about it, but i could tell she was plenty mad. any way this kiddo had no hx of resp problems she was in for an mild cough that had been going on for a few days, i dont know. but thanks every one for all your good thoughts and good vibes coming my way:cheers:
