Requesting Special Accommodations

Having Failed NCLEX-RN Frist time, Im requesting specific accommodations D/T my learning disabilites.According to DSM-IV code, My Diagnostician thinks I would greatly benefit from Multisensory presentation (visual and auditory), Twice the amount of time, and a room free of distraction. Although granted in nursing school I fear the BNE will not except such accommodations. What kind of special accommodations have you ever heard be Granted by the BNE. OR heard of an individual be denied there request.

Thanks for your input.

What about contacting your BON directly? I know that according the ADA "reasonable accomodations" have to be made. Good luck...

Yes there is such accommodations. There are alot of other paper work you need which you can find from the BRN website. Their all verifications of your diagnosis. But they do give private rooms away from others taking the test and provide time and a half in case you go all the way. For auditory stuff you can wear headphones which reads you the question.

A couple of friends had these accommodations.

Hope that helps...

GN2RN:

what ended up happening w/this? I am LD and ADD and have wondered how I will wk this when the time comes. Also: how did u make it through Nursing School w/dealing w/your LD's? I was diagnosed last yr and have had some accomidations (x tra testing time & a note taker). I was in BSN school 2y ago (dropped 4 failure in 2 classes; the limit) and had no idea as to why I would study my butt off, then go in and fail miserably! After much deep thought I got the testing & was not surprised 2 hear the news. I had seizures for 20+yrs (LTL, epileptic). I have been seizure free 11y now (last known one on EEG in '93). But all of those yrs atrophed my learning centers (hippocampus). Recall is difficult for me, and I have 2 study many hrs to get it 2 sink in. I have managed a 3.2 GPA in my classes, so I am getting through this. I have applied for a BSN program for the fall.

How did u do this????

How did the NCLEX go?
