Why don't you go to your country's embassy or consulate and have your passport renew?

If you are seasonal just for this winter season, then you have nothing to worry about. If you have a ten year passport, it will be much easier to just get it renewed now, but how long will it take you to get the new passport?
Have you gotten your visa yet from the US and what type is it?

I had a similar issue while I was going to college here. My passport expired with all the visa documentation in it. I had to get a new passport and got to keep the old expired one with all the visa documentation. I just had to travel with both old and new passport.
Hope this helps.

I'm Canadian and live in North Carolina. My passport expires March 2004. I found this website on line. You can print the application form and it has all the instructions. You cannot renew a passport in Canada yourself due to having a US address but there is no problem doing it by mail from the US.
Check it out, www.ptt.gc.ca
Hope it's helpful.
