BTW I found not to trust anything on Gaswork anymore....those numbers stated seem to be complete teasers to get you to talk to the groups. We went on some trips to promising locations with what we thought were reasonable offers and it turns out once you have the actual contract on the table none of the figures match what it is advertised....just my observation. Quite frustrating too.

Somebody explain to me again what is wrong with making $50+K with an Associates Degree working three days a week. Becoming a CRNA is not easy and there are a lot easier ways in nursing to make good or even excellent money that are a lot easier.....the money and belief of anesthesia being laid back, comfortable and relaxing will just not hold true either.

Dave I'm with you on this one, Jess's numbers didn't add up to me either. Seems like that even if she sold for neither a profit or loss she would not be able to cover for her closing cost. DSAC if you are a first time home buyer please don't discount all the other cost associated with the purchase of a house if you have been through the process before I am sure you can run the numbers yourself. I would figure that in Ft Worth in newer constructions you'll also be looking at Association Fees and limitations trough associations in regard of eventually renting/ selling the place in the future. Also the building of multiple new communities in the area could be a double edged sword....while I think that in a up market that can add value to existing homes it could quite easily do the opposite in a down market when there are just to many new houses out there and prices get depressed....this happend in Los Angeles before (big time I think in the late 80's) and it took people 10 plus years to recover from the equity losses they had. Just food for thought....I am not trying to dicourage you here but just shed some light. My wife and I were in the same situation and actually bought a townhouse here in S. FL about two months before she started her program. The market here has since appreciated significantly and I am hoping to walk away with some money...would I do it again....maybe, maybe not....the process was tedious the costs more than anticipated (we were 1st timers) and even the running costs are higher than thought, thanks to rising association (insurance-due to hurricanes) fees...etc....etc....Fortunately my salary covers our running expenses...but I believe we could have rented a lot cheaper and possibly nicer with a lot less headaches. You want to make sure that everything adds up up front and also give yourself some room just in case something doesn't work out 100% the way you planned it.

Just wanted to click in here and warn that and investment is an investment and can turn out either way. I am quite conservative in regards of investing and unless your wife's salary covers the mortgage expenses I would advise against getting involved in buying a house if it means you are paying off borrowed money (mortgage) with borrowed money (student loans). I know that the Fort Worth area has been growing quite nicely in the past but with a rising interest rate environment appreciation in the 10-20 percent range seems unlikely to me just about anywhere in the country. As far as the preconstruction/ new communities I believe they might be nice as an "investment" but since you are looking at finding a place to stay while you are in school this might again not the greatest of options. I think that there should always be something cheaper to rent than the total cost of homeownership will run you. So please make sure that you understand the difference between renting, owning and investing. I can tell you that you do not want to create more stress for yourself while in CRNA school than you absolutely have to.

Thanks Deepz I have been to this website before and really couldn't find too much. It seems like some of the links were improved and there is actually some good information now. I think it will still take quite some work to figure out what the scope of practice is in different countries. I was hoping for something a little more plain vanilla but this is definitively a good start.

Sorry I don't have an answer to your question. But basically I would like to ask if anybody knows if there are any other countries out there where US trained CRNA's can work. There does not seem to be a lot of information out there and maybe somebody knows a good link or has a general idea of where to look. Thanks.....

I had a similar issue while I was going to college here. My passport expired with all the visa documentation in it. I had to get a new passport and got to keep the old expired one with all the visa documentation. I just had to travel with both old and new passport. Hope this helps.

Only heard the rumor about the AA program at UM....this would make it four programs in the Miami area.....good luck finding clinical sites if this happens.

I guess it all depends on the perspective. 61/63 does not look too bad if you are from out of town and don't care where you rent your apartment....if you are from Miami applied to the school in town since you have your house down here and your kids are going to school here, it seems to look a little different. But that's just my opinion. And again this situation is settled, clinicals are well on their way and it seems like the communications problem is fixed as well. What I'm trying to say here is that not all is perfect, all the time, no matter which program you'll attend. That is especially true over the course of 24,27 or even 36 months. Barry is no different then any other program in that regards. Make sure you take all your information with a grain of salt especially coming from people that forever which reason are not in the program anymore. Barry is a great program as 60+ people would probably attest you. Just learn to roll with the blows and you will end up with the C& the A.

Z I agree with you on points 1,2,3, the professors are approchable although not all in the same location and sometimes they seem not to be the most diplomatic.....I don't need to remind you that people were drawn out of a hat to be sent to the Orlando clinical site without consideration of their ties here in the community (Mortgages, Kids in School....). Also it seems like there have been alot of issues with the network connecting the different clinical sites which led to cancellations of class and in my opinion a sub-standard learning experience (not quite worth the money either). Then again those might just be momentary hickups that occured through the rapid increase in class size and will be fixed soon. All in all I believe that Barry is a great program that will keep turning out great CRNA's. I agree fully with Z and so many other people on this board that it is YOU that has to be 100% ready to enter a program, to give up parts/most of your life, in order to suceed. If you are not willing and ready, you are likely to become the statistic everybody is asking about. Know that you will have to put up with a lot, and at the end, you will get 4 little letters that give will give you a great paycheck, great benefits, greater autonomy, more respect and better work conditions.

I have to agree with Barb.....RN Network has been fantastic to us as well....benefits were great from day one and the more assignments my wife did (all in a local area and also repeat assignments) the more the company was willing to pay in housing stipends We went from a one bedroom to a two bedroom apartment that was paid for....they really seem to take some extra steps for you.

United Vanlines worked well for us. From KS to FL it was actually cheaper than renting a U-Haul truck and doing it ourselves. Depending from where your move starts and where it ends there can be big fluctuations in the cost of renting a truck and doing it yourself. After using United for the first time and having everything done it won't be an option to do it ourselves anymore. Just make sure you pack everything yourself...they provide boxes for free...in order not to get ripped for packaging costs. Good luck moving.

My wife traveled with a few companies. Cross Country, American Mobile and RN Network amongst them. For us RN Network seemed to be working best. Plenty of assignments in CA with the highest housing stipend (they paid for a two bedroom after a couple of assignments)as well as the best 401K ($ for $ matching with immediate vesting). That really helped living in L.A. as well as with putting away a good amount of money into retirement funds. The other two companies were ok as well but benefits were not as good for us. Depending on which area in the country you'll go, different companies might offer better assignments. You'll just have to check.
