As men in general, it is important to exercise everyday.
This means taking 30 to 90 mins a day for the sole
purpose of walking, running, lifting, squating it out
following some hard core workout program on a DVD or
some hard core pilates. What ever it takes. You can
make up your own program if you like. During the war
I would carry a deck of cards.. the number on the card
meant i did that number in pushups, squats.. just squating down and holding it for a second.. and situps and
run in place x 10 sec of that number.. what ever it takes.
you could mix it up depending on what day it was...
Stress and stagnation are the enemy. Exercise is the best way
to counter those bad guys. We all either went to school or are in
the process of going to school to know what is healthy to eat and
what kind of crap to not put into your body. The more crap you put
into your body, the more stress your body has to deal with.
Myself, for the next 89 days, I have purchased the p 90 x system
I just finnished day one. The workout today reminded me of waking up
at 4 20 for Physical training when I was in basic training. This is a bit more
intense though, as halfway through the DVD, I felt a little nauseated.
I had gained some weight when I was in graduate school, easy on, hard off. I love bench pressing
pushing the weight of my chest, knocking out reps, it is a mental high, but i know I have to work
the rest of my body, work that out... So I am doing this program, It seems logical, very intense, and so be it
if I lose some poundage of my bench press, for the sake of my weight loss, cardiovascular health, and general feeling of well being. I cant do squats with weights or deadlifts because of my back injury from parachuting in the active army, but that is ok.
I have considered phenteramine as an adjunct to my weight loss goals. I did clinicals with a MD who safely prescribes phenteramine to patients, in conjuction with a decent diet and exercise. It is something I am still considering, but I doubt it.
Let me tell you men in nursing who are in school right now... find time to exercise everyday, find the time.. your body needs it, your mind will be refreshed, you will study better, it will be like adding 5 hours of sleep.. that is you will feel that refreshed after a while. Your grades will be better...
Any other men in nursing in similar situations ?
Please feel free to comment.

Sounds rathering interesting. I have been trying to get my own "program" together but it hasnt be as easy as it sounds. Could you tell me a little more about the "p 90 x system" It sounds like that might just be the ticket!
Thanks!
Hope to hear soon

i have finnished week one on the p90x system. It reminds me of doing physical training when I was in basic training for the army, but only harder.
The DVDs consist of pushups, pullups, abdominal work, jumping at different angle, kicking, and stretching.
My bad back can handle the exercises, but I am still care full with it. If anything, with the abdominal and back exercises and stretches, my back will get stronger.
14 different dvds and you do them as the training manual says over a 90 day period.
When i say it isnt easy, i am not kidding, its pretty intense. It is definately for someone who pulls motivation from the inside in.
I have decided to supplement my workouts with a little extra upper body training, my goal is to lose wieight and tone up, but yea i was seriously smoked after this first week.
11 weeks go to...
Interesting... where can I find this program? I think I might give it a try

I wish I could do all this. I keep trying to exercise and everything, but sometimes I get so tired I can't. I think this summer I will really have to kick it in gear and exercise every day.

I actually lost a ton of weight in nursing school. When I came home from classes or clinicals, I would be so wiped out and I would think to myself, either I could just pass out on the couch and be a loser for the rest of the night or I could go for a run and come back revitalized, awake, alert. The rest is actually a simple equation of calories in calories out. People try to make it so complicated if you just want to loose fat and be a healthy shape. I guess if you are going for a chiseled look, it is certainly more complicated, as I can attest when I purposely brought my body fat below 10%.

P90x, eh?
That must be what the chuckehead in the apartment above mine must be doing every morning...

I agree with you patrick1rn, it's very important to exercise to revitalize oneself and improve energy levels! I am one who is into isotonic exercises, where I push with all of my mite door jams at certain angles and the tops of doors pulling down with my arms. With very little time I can keep lean mean machine.
There's this book I own entitled Yoga for men Only by Young (a chiropractor) written during the sixties, no longer in print, yet one can still buy copies used. Check out the comments on Amazon. I am middle aged and find walking over hills where I live the best of exercise for me on my days off.

The absolute best thing you can do is lift weights. Unfortunately most people have no idea where to start. I can't tell you how many people I see come into the gym and sit down and do 200 curls with a 10 pound dumbell. That is USELESS!
You need to work on doing gains, with a limited, but effective set of exercises. Here is the best beginner workout I have seen that will enable you to gain a good bit of strength and muscle mass, and it's only 3 days a week of work. It isn't easy to do, but the guy has simplified it to the point that anyone CAN do it, it's just a lot of exertion, but that's the point! Lifting weights will make you feel a million times better. If anyone has questions I'm glad to help out.
