Relocating to Atl

Good Morning all,

I have a quick question for the Atlanta area nurses...my family and I are relocating to the Atlanta this summer and I already have a job waiting for me, but my husband who is a med-surg nurse with an ASN degree is not having much luck finding a job. Are there hospitals that only hire BSN grads? He has his one year nursing experience under his belt and he needs to have a job also. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Of course he has tried Grady, DeKalb and GMC...does Atlanta Medical Ctr, Piedmont or Emory hire ASN nurses?

    Most hospitals are only hiring BSN new grads... that may be different with a year of experience under his belt, however. I would try AMC and contact HR again with GMC and Grady.

    I am not sure what part of town you will be living Atlanta is huge. Tell him to try Southern Regional, and most nurses didn't have a BSN or were going back for a BSN. Also he can pretty much change specialties if he likes. Also AMC, cartersville medical is about 45 mins outside of atlanta.

    Thanks for the replies ...we are moving to the lilburn/lawrenceville area. Will follow up with GMC and Grady!

    The job market for nurses is TOUGH in Georgia..with an Associates and only 1 year it will be more difficult. He may have better success with home health or LTC. There are also many nursing agencies in the ATL area - they all have different requirements but that is also an option. Also, many MD offices/clinics in the area and the VA would be places to check.

    Piedmont accepts ADN's even though they prefer BSN and he could try Southern Regional; but Grady, Dekalb, and Gwinnett Medical Center definitely does so I would touch basis with them to see what's what. Then as the previous poster said, there are many doctor offices that he could try. I've heard that it's easier to land a job as a brand new grad, then an ADN with less than 2 yrs experience in Georgia. I don't know how true that is, but everyone I know that has graduated with an ADN, now works in the hospitals, so good luck.

    Thanks for all the advice and suggestions. We just had to be a bit more patient, he has several interviews with the large hospitals GMC, Dekalb Grady etc.
