reference question HELP FAST PLEASE

I applied and interviewed for a part time job. She wants references now. I gave her a few. None of which are my current boss.

She called and says she needs a CURRENT boss reference.

I plan to keep both jobs and worry that my current boss will not be happy that I am applying elsewhere. She can be very difficult at times so if I don't get this new job I may be screwed.

Is this common? What to do?

When I interview people in the academic setting, the interview committee often asks if it is okay to call the present employer. It is not unusual for interviewees to ask that the current employer NOT be contacted. I think this is understandable and it doesn't bother me.

She said she NEEDS to speak with the current boss. I sure wasn't planing this.

How old are the references that you gave her?

Just explain why. You could suffer if you gave the reference but did not get the position.

However, is there a co-worker who could attest for your professionalism, knowledge, reliability, attitude? Would the potential employer be satisfied with that?

One is older-a few years like 4 or 5.

The other reference is from January 2008-that's when I stopped working there. So 22 months.

I would like that but she said one refernce had to be a direct supervisor. So I gave her 2 previous direct supervisors. Then she said it has to be the current boss. So i dont think she would accept that.
