Recommendations, please!

Hello everyone!

I am 19 years old and I received my LPN license this summer. I'm looking to go back to school for my RN as soon as possible, I wish I had already started. I live in New York right now but I am willing to relocate just about anywhere - a lot of the schools in NY have long waiting lists, I don't know if this is everywhere else or not. I've been getting really discouraged trying to find a school out on Long Island, I really would like to go to school ASAP. I was hoping to start taking some prerequisites at a community college starting in January. Some places I would really be interested in moving are Los Angeles, South Carolina or Florida, but like I said I would go just about anywhere. I considered online programs but I had a hard enough time focusing in school and I don't feel like an online program is the best way to go for me. I would love it if you could let me know where you go to school, where you are located and maybe a little bit about the prerequisites and other things needed to get into the school, if you had to wait to get in, and maybe alittle bit about the school. Thank you soooo much!!!

Did you try Helene Fuld in Manhatten?

well, in miami theres MIAMI DADE COLLEGE MEDICAL CENTER (community college) im pretty sure they have an rn program and i think even an accelerated one. im about to go in for my lpn, i understand how you feel.

I did consider Helene Fuld, however I heard that the program is VERY accelerated and it is hard to complete clinicals and they run you all over Brooklyn/Queens/Manhattan.....I'm not very familiar with the city - this would be hard for me to have to do it all on my own. I do want to find a fast-track program, however people I have heard from have said that this one might just be alittle too much and I don't want to stress myself out more than I already have to.

It is an accelerated program, however you can space it from 1-2 years. The clinicals are only in Manhatten and some are in the Bronx. When I went there, there was no wait list. It would be smart to do all the pre-reqs in community college, then transfer to Helene Fuld, to do the nursing courses. Anyway you can put in preferences for clinical sites in Manhatten. Also, you should check out Beth Israel and Cochran school of nursing.

If you're interested in moving south of the Mason-Dixon line, there's a private LPN-to-RN bridge program that will admit you with no prerequisites. The only two things that the school requires are licensure as an LPN and being able to pass the NET test.

Is there a wait list for the LPN-RN bridge program at your local public nursing college?

Where I am in Florida if you've completed the majority of the pre-reqs then the LPN-RN bridge is first come first served. I've applied for for the transition program that starts in May. I'm in microbiology now and will do my last pre-req in Jan.

The problem with you going to an out of state public college is that they'll probably give priority to in state if not in county residents.

I wouldn't do one of the accelerated programs that include all the pre-reqs and RN classes.
