Rate your professors

Ran across this amusing and informative website this week - http://www.ratemyprofessors.com. You can find feedback on just about any college teacher in the country. It can help you decide which teacher to take (if you have a choice). Also, you should add your own feedback. It's one of the few ways we have to warn others about the bad ones and to praise those rare gems!

I did not find the site useful when I was in school. The comments were, this is a bad professor, that one is a "sweet heart." And no actual rational for the choices. I've checked back just now and have found that the rationals are more clear and probably quite useful. I checked on my old profs and after reading the reviews, I feel they got a fair deal, even if the overall rating was off.

I like ratemyprofessors.com too! It's not always helpful because some teachers are not on there, but for the most part it at least helps you eliminate some of the not so good ones.

I would say that the most important thing about the site, though, is to look at the comments, not just the ratings. Some really angry students can go on there and give really low ratings without any reason so that doesn't help you decide if the teacher is right for you. You also have to take the recommendations with a grain of salt because there are usually some good and some bad recommendations depending on the class and the learning type of the students commenting. One teacher might be good for one student but terrible for another.

I also really like to go look at the teachers I have now or have had before to see if their ratings were really true with what the teacher was like! :D

Does anyone know why everytime I try to get on this website it says "oops can't find the page you were looking for." I have no troubles with any other website... grrrr

Did you try the link or type in the website?

I just tried both and it worked so I can't really say why yours isn't working... Maybe if you google ratemyprofessors.com it will bring up another link that will work?

:) i also used pickaprof.com when i was in school...its similar...i went to a cc so it didn't cost anything, but i think now they charge for info about instructors at universities...

I think, the more information, the better. So, I think that's a nice site. But, I do agree that reading comments is important. Also, what makes for a likeable professor doesn't always equal a good professor. In nursing, more so than most majors, I think a good professor is a real gift. My experience, though, the nicest clinical instructor I've had turned out to be a real detriment to me when I ended up moving to the next semester. I would have rated her high at the time, but I see that she wasn't tough on us, and then I was at a disadvantage summer semester.
