Okay, a few of you here know of the anxiety that I have had for a while with working. I can honestly say that it has gotten better but not where I want it to be; Im coming to the conclusion that it will all come together after my first year, at least I hope so. Anyway I have a dilemma; I am prn at a facility BUT a few months ago I applied w/the state of Ohio for a job at the corrections medical center. Today I received a letter (which I thought was a famous rejection letter) saying that I had been selected for an interview and it gave a scheduled date for next week, all I had to do was call and confirm the date and time, and I did. BUT HERE'S THE DILEMMA, Im moving to GA in late June early July possibly and definitely no later than August 1st (if savings dont go as it should). So, Im going to the interview to see what happens, but if Im offered the job, SHOULD I TAKE IT knowing my plans? It is my goal to acquire experience in other areas than ltc as a lpn. I am interested in ltac, er (I can get it cause I get job alerts daily), and corrections. I just want to be well rounded nurse and I dont want people to automatically assume that b/c Im a lpn that I work in ltc; not that it's anything wrong with it, it's just that I have spent the last 7 years in ltc as an aide and plus the little time that I have worked, Im not completely sure its for me (although I love the residents, they crack me up sometimes!). Can you all here please throw out your suggestions, I will consider them all, I just want to hear what others have to say.

Thanx in advance!

While it's true that you would gain experience working in a corrections facility, I think abandoning a job so soon after starting it will look bad on your employment record. It could affect your ability to get work in your new town. I think you'd be better off to wait and look for other opportunities after you've moved.

I would have to say that I would not feel right taking a job when I know I would be quitting so soon. I don't think it is fair to them.

I understand your concerns! I will be graduating in June, and I wonder how long I should stay at my first job if I end up hating it, etc. You want to be well rounded, but you don't want to look like a job hopper either! I agree that you should probably wait til you move UNLESS you are up front in your interview, tell them you will be moving soon...let them make the decision to hire you or not. Good luck!

I dont want to be selfish to them either but, I still have to work plus Im afraid that something will not go according to plan and I will be here longer than what Im anticipating. The reason I work prn is b/c I had the hardest time finding a job in the first place and all I could get (if you can believe it) was a prn position; nobody was willing to hire a new grad where I am located in the first place and plus I dont even get the opportunity to work that much. I have always though of my future employer since I got out of school in the first place and was leary about taking a job, but I have to think about me too. I could always omit the employer from my work record; alot of people do it all the time and plus with other situations, I have seen others here on the site give advice about doing the same thing if they can afford to do so. I do know that once I move to my new state, I wont ever be coming back to live here, so in a way it doesnt matter but it does.

It matters to the employer also, it cost quite a bit of money to hire someone, do drug and background screening, orientation just to have that employee turn around and quit a few weeks or months later. It really isn't fair to go into a job knowing ahead of time that you won't be staying very long.

I am sorry it has been so rough on you to find a job, I know how distressing that can be! You have to do what is best for you always, and if you really need this job then take it, and don't feel guilty about it! Good luck, I hope everthing works out well for you.

You need to look out for #1 and that is you. It is unfortunate that the world has come to this--but would they look out for you? Now, having said that if I knew I was absolutely going to leave I would not accept the position, but if there is any doubt, I would accept.
