I'll be starting nursing school this fall and was curious about my background check, so I hopped online and found a site that will give you a full report for $1. I won't be able to submit this to my school because it clearly states on there that the info CANNOT be used in connection with decisions about consumer credit, employment, insurance, tenant screening, ect., but I was fine with that. Ok, honestly, I was more nervous than 'curious'. I've had my share of traffic violations when I was younger (over 5 years ago). And yes, I also conveniently 'forgot' to pay my fines which ultimatly led to the suspension of my license. Yeah, I know, I was an irresponsible moron. But my question is could this potentially get me dismissed from the nursing program? My record shows 'driving while license suspended or revoked' and I'm freaking out. Anyone please?

I really don't think they are looking at traffic violations, unless they are criminal like a DUI so I wouldn't worry about it.

I don't think traffic violations will stop you from your goals. However the absolute best thing is to be upfront and honest about them and if you have to fill out any paperwork that asks about past violations make sure to list them upfront.
I agree with you guys about being upfront about it. However, I did some additional research, and I believe that it's considered a Class C misdemeanor. I went back and referenced the eligibility form that I filled out as part of my application packet and it states "only exclude class c misdemeanors". Seriously. Anyway, I never disclosed that information on my application, but since it's coming up on my background check do you think it'd be in my best interest to come clean? lol I'm really not sure what the TX BON looks at, but I've heard stories of people losing their spots in NS because of past violations. I'd like to believe that my driving record isn't pertinent here, but you just never know. oh, and thank you guys for taking the time to comment. I appreciate it!

I am in a similar situation, but not for traffic violations. Mine is also a misdemeanor. Look, if it were me, I'd be honest about it. I doubt they're going to care about your tickets, even if your license was suspended. As long as you have a valid license now, be honest with them.

"only exclude class c misdemeanors".... do they mean exclude this kind of misdemeanor from your list of disclosures?

Only things that count are DUIs, anything criminal. If it was revoked due to non payment of excise taxes, or expired they don't use it against you.
