Question re. Army ANCP program

Board decisions can get you a verbal YES or NO very quickly.

You will hear people complain on this forum as they are waiting for their official orders and such... in the ANCP that won't affect you. True ANCP and normal nursing slots are different manpower requirements.

I am going up Monday, the 16th to sign my Inactive Reserves papers at MEPS. But, my app. does not go to board until Tuesday, the 17th. Did anyone else sign these before the app. was approved? I feel confident on my chances, so i'm not hesitant to sign, just curious. Thanks!

The process is there to ensure you are fully qualified for the program. The boards usuall recess on thursdays of the same week and results generally come out by friday evening. Hope this helps.

I feel confident that i'm fully qualified, so being hesitant to sign is not an issue, just trying to figure out why they would have you sign before they know if they are going to choose you. My recruiter is great, so that to me makes all the difference in signing. She did tell me I would know something quickly regarding acceptance. I am pumped about being an Army nurse, it's my dream. As you probably know... the process you went through just to qualify is pretty stringent. I have not met anyone who was applying for the program and met all the requirements to board without being selected. As long as you are actually working with an AMEDD recruiter you have nothing to worry about. I only say it that way since I have heard of people working with another service and all I can say is that the Marine Corps does not have an AMEDD program (They fall under the USN). Hello all, I am a new member here and find the information very helpful. I completed my application for the Army Nurse Candidate program and it will go to board March 17. My recruiter has told me that I could possibly hear something that day or within the next couple of days regarding their decision. Is this true? Do they really make decisions that quickly? Also, she told me that the quota for nurses for the year is getting full, however, she mentioned that this does not usually affect ANCP applicants. Has anyone heard the same? I am excited about becoming an Army nurse and hope all of this works out. Thanks for everything!

All this talk of ANC filling up has me a bit worried... I am sure that many are turning to the Military due to the state of the economy, but I was under the impression that there were major shortages predicted into 2013 or beyond...

I understand that a lot of nurses will separate after their initial obligation is fulfilled (and they receive there bonus/LRP), and that current Med /Surge nurses will be moving up to take their place, opening slots for new grad nurses but, I can't help but worry for my chances to get in in the future.

I still have three years left in my BSN, and have been planning on this career path for some time now. I would like to do the LRP as it will offer me more compensation than the ANCP. However, if getting a commission is becoming more difficult, and the ANCP is a more assured way of getting in, then I may have to reconsider this avenue... even if it places more of a financial burden on me.

I can't imagine being a nurse anywhere else but in the Army, and have been planning to finish out my career in that capacity, so for personal reasons, I hope that this is only a passing predicament (on the other hand I realize that full staffing is a good thing for the Army and the soldiers that need the care).

A lot of you have been waiting for orders and what not.... well, I know how you feel... still waiting to even apply :)

I joined the ANCP in April and when I went up to sign my IRR contract my recruiter informed me that there was a hold on direct commissions for some reason but that it would not effect ANCP. I could never imagine spending my career any where else other then the Army. I was an army wife for 13 years and my husband just ETS'd almost 2 years ago and gosh do I miss the Army. I can't wait to get back. Just one question if anyone knows the answer..... Has anyone recieved their bonus yet for enlisting in the ANCP? I haven't heard anything about mine and was wondering if anyone heard of a time table? I know it is when they accept your enrollment docs. but I am just now going to be a junior in the fall, my recruiter seemed to think I would get it by the summer, but I was thinking it wouldn't be until the start of the fall semester. I know that is when my stipend should start, but I was wondering about the bonus. If anyone knows let me know! Thanks

I just signed my IRR contract in April but have yet to be paid, is this normal? How long does it take before we receive the first stipend payment? And my recruiter never got back to me about if we get a military ID or not.

I heard it takes anywhere from 30-60 days. Let me know when you get it, that should give all of us some sort of timetable. Thanks and Good Luck!

Just trying to be informed about the ANCP program, I'm strongly considering the ANCP program, My expected start date for school for my BSN is Spring 2010, and the school I'm considering doesn't take applications until September, so I didn't know if I should go ahead and talk to a health care recruiter now or wait until I get an acceptance letter from the university, also i saw on another thread that the minium GPA is 3.2, and not really sure how they calculate that, I have a B.S in Information Technology Management, and my GPA for that was 3.5, but concerned that the science pre-req's for the Nursing Program are going to drag my GPA down, I'm currently enrolled in Microbiology with lab and Chemistry with Lab, but not doing so well, I'm hoping to end up with B's but worst case would be C's, and didn't know how to calculate the GPA for the other pre-req's, One was a four hour credit and I ended up with a C, another one was 4 hour credit and I ended with a B, and the other was Nutrition and I had an A, but that one doesn't generally count as a science pre-req, any help would be appreciated, also what type of waiting period should I expect for the monetary portion if accepted? Also my understanding is that if accepted into ANCP, your guaranteed an Active Duty Slot, I just wanted to be sure I'm not misinformed, I don't know if it matters but I'm Prior Service as well, and have six months left on the G.I bill, and didn't know if that would make me inelgible for this program, thanks...
