Question about pre-reqs

Call or go to the school(s) you are considering and ask for pamphlets or info on their degree programs. All the pre-reqs will be outlined for you, then you just check off the ones you have had. Bear in mind that the course still has to be accepted by the school, but it still gives you an idea.

Many schools have websites. Most have degree requirements given on the website (may have to look under the Course Bulletins, or some such).

And don't sweat the math. You are paying them to teach you, not to grade you on what you already know. Mature people are generally better students because they apply themselves and relate to the subject. A tutor might help if you get bogged down, but give yourself the benefit of a doubt.

Hey Purplemania do you think if you do okay on the placement test then you can start with the required pre-req's? I looked at each class to see what the pre-reqs are and it includes "placement by testing". I just wonder will they say okay you need to take all the basics first like in English, etc.

If you "place" in a lower math/english than a "transferable" class you have to take the math/english classes to get to the required level. I started off a little lower, because of being out of school so long. But you can take some of those classes in the summer maybe even online. It isnt such a problem I did my prereq's in 2 yrs, because I wanted to space out my sciences. You also for an AA degree have to take certain classes like a humanities and some sort of speech or public speaking class. I also had to take sociology as well. Thats all I can recall, anatomy, physiology, microbiology, humanites, math, english, and speech. Some are not required to get into the AA nursing program at a community college but are required to get the degree, so I know of some girls taking night or weekend classes to get them done before we graduate (they came in LVN step up program to RN).

school requirements vary, but some are set by the State. If you phoned the Dean's office you might get better info, or just the name of an advisor. The Dean's secretary knows a lot of the basic stuff. I am referring to College of Nursing Dean. I believe most will let you take pre-reqs in any order you choose, but you really want someone from the school you will be attending to advise you. Good luck!!
