Question about pre-reqs

Hi I am so glad that I stumbled across this website! It has been so helpful! I am a stay home mom of 4 and I have decided that since we are done it is time for me to go to school now. I have already applied to the college and I will be starting in August. I have to go and take the placement test probably in April and then I will talk with a Nursing Advisor. My question is for the pre-reqs that you have to take to get INTO the nursing program, are they the same at all colleges? I have been reading under the PRE-NURSING STUDENT FORMUM all the different pre-reqs and I am confused. I am sure I will find out more when I go and talk with the advisor in a few months, but I am curious now. The only pre-reqs that it states that I must take are Algebra, Biology, Chemistry and all the developmental courses that are prescribed by the scores of my placement/compass test. So I am assuming all colleges are different?

I don't mean to sound silly, but I want to make sure that we are talking about the same compass/placement test. This is the test that every college requires you to take right? I know I took one my senior year, but in the end I never ended up going to college.

In our CC there are 2 placement tests. The first (the accuplacer) is for your general classes that everyone takes, and the second, the NET (nursing entrance test), is specifically to get into the nursing program.

For example - for me to get into Anatomy & Physiology 1, I needed to have BIO 105 (which is an intro to bio course). To get into BIO 105 I needed Reading 090, Math 060, English 060 and CIS 110.

When you take the accuplacer, it determines where you are with your skills. In reading, for example, you can place in 1 of 5 levels. If you get 1-24 you are placed in Guided Placement, which means you need major reading assistance; score 25-39 your in REA 030, score 40-61 your in REA 060, score 62-79 your REA 090 or if you score 80-120 they tell you "No basic skills placement required".

So for that BIO 105 class I tested 'out' of all those pre-reqs so I didn't need any pre classes to get into it.

You should go onto the college website or order a catalog and get figuring out what you need now, rather than having to wait. As well, I was able to walk in anytime and get my accuplacer done, you should see if you can do the same. I just studied math mostly, I haven't been in school in 20+ years and got put in college algebra. I'm not going to be taking any algebra, but I needed that score to get into Chemistry and Statistics.

I just called the school and was told she didn't think they had anything for me to study, but the website itself has a few sample questions in each category (which I knew). I think I will just study up on the math and take it at the begining of April. I have to call and make an appt. to take the test.

Just find a highly rated study guide online. And do everything, meaning the actual tutorials, not just the practice quizzes and tests.
