Question about pay

Published

I hope it wasn't asked already but if it was could someone point me to the thread?

Anyway - when you work 36 hours a week do you get paid for 36 or are you paid for 40? I have heard conflicting stories about pay and was just curious what the deal was.

Thanks!

The only thing I have heard of relating to that is called...."double weekends".....where you work Sat/Sun 16 hours each day and you get paid for 40 hours of work. Im not in the nursing field but I have friends that are. This might be what you are referring to....

A Saturday and Sunday shift ? I didn't know that was an option for nurses. It sounds like a perfect shift - 4 days off couldn't be better.

This was in LTC though. In a hospital I don't know????

Yes I heard about that too but it was for weekends. Not sure about days. I spoke with someone at the VA hospital in Phx and he told me it is available but only for certain specialties. I'm sure every hospital is different so be sure to check with them.

Specializes in Cardiac.

Unless you are in a special program like the Baylor program, then you get paid for what you work.

You work 36, get paid for 36.

I know where I work at if you work 36 you get paid for 40, Mayo was also the same way, as far as I know.

Specializes in behavioral health.

i get paid for every hour worked.. 36=36

Mayo is work 36hr, paid 36hr. If you're use to the traditional 40hr workweek that 10% hit put's you in the hole.

Specializes in M/S, oncology, QI/PI, SCI rehab.

Where I work in Chicago, a lot of the hospitals have adopted the weekend program. You work 12 hours every Sat and Sun and get paid 36. Someone else works 2 8's during the week and 2 12's every weekend for a total of 80 hrs every 2 weeks and she is paid for 96 hrs. Not bad if you have kids and your spouse watches them on the weekend. I prefer every other weekend myself.
