Question from the new guy

Are there LPNs who specialize in trauma? I searched the threads and didn't find anything specific about it, sorry if I missed something and am asking the same thing over again. :typing Not real sure about what goes on in the hospital side of the house. Was wondering if there is a place for people like me, who have specialized in emergency trauma management (pre-hospital) for a long time, to fit in with the scrubs-wearing crowd, maybe put those skills to good use?

Specializes in Case mgmt., rehab, (CRRN), LTC & psych.

Although it is rare in the US due to scope of practice limitations in many states, there's a small handful of LPNs who do work in emergency departments.

Specializes in emergency.

In Kansas I know that LPNs after getting ACLS certified can go on and get their TNCC. In the hospital I worked in one nurse from every floor would respond to trauma pages from the er and they had to have TNCC

Specializes in Geriatrics.

There may be a few LPNs out there that work in trauma. I don't think that many hospitals around where i live have LPNs in trauma simply because alot of the stuff that goes on in trauma cases is outside the scope of practice for LPNs. Good Luck though, I certainly couldn't work in trauma so I'm glad that there are people that love it!! :)

Thanks for the heads up. I am really looking forward to starting my LPN program, I suppose it's about time that I embrace the clinical aspects of patient care, at least as the next step toward getting into an ER. Scope of practice issues are virtually non-existent for me right now, there's nothing I' not covered to do if it means keeping a guy alive. That might be the roughest adjustment now that you all have brought it to my attention. :caduceus: 'Preciate it!
