Question.. Info. Rights?

I received a letter the other day from the LVN program to which I applied informing me that due to the high number of applicants this year I was not selected for the program, but that I am an alternate and will be contacted if someone cannot attend the program. I called their office to get a little more information. I wanted to know how many alternates, besides myself, were selected and what number I was on the alternate list. She told me she cannot give me any information only that there were over 450 applicants - well, I already knew that because we took the test on the same day at the same place so I saw how many people were applying to the program. I also wanted to know what the deciding factor was - why someone was picked over me, I asked her what was considered my weak area by the judges - all she told me was what the judges use to determine eligibility - and I already knew that too! The lady was very nice and said she did not understand why they were so secretive with the information either. Don't I have a right to know these things?

lfulton, I'm so sorry you did not get in the program at this time, but don't give up. Is it possible for you to attend another school in another city, or is that out of the question for you due to family and work?

Yes, they should have given you more of an answer to your question than they did, but rest assured...when one door closes - a window of opportunity opens elsewhere even better than the one before. Also, instead of looking at it as a 'bad thing', look at it as a good sign of greater blessings yet to come for you. :)

I am also sorry you didn't get in this time. But since you were put on the waiting list...take heart! You'd be surprised at how many drop out, quit and just don't show up! You may just be in afterall!

It has been almost a year since I was rejected for the LVN program and since I originally posted this thread. I just wanted to say that you were right, cheerfuldoer!!! There were better things in store for me. After getting the rejection letter I decided to continue working on the pre-reqs for the RN program. Doubt would creep into my mind every now and then making me wonder how I could possibly get into the RN program if I couldn't get into the LVN program, but I kept at it anyway. I applied for the RN program this year and was accepted, classes begin this fall. So thanks to all those who posted, e-mailed, and called to remind me that everything does truly happen for a reason and never, never give up on your dreams!!! And as for all of those who may currently be doubting yourself - don't, just work hard and you'll make it!!

Wow! Congratulations! And what a wonderful story, thank you for sharing that!! I needed to hear it, I was denied for LPN school once, and put on a waiting list the second time. You just gave me some inspiration that maybe my going to get my Assoc. RN might not be such a bad thing! Thanks! Best of luck to you in Nursing School!
