question about grading?

Published

hello everyone. i'm currently taking the prerequistes to get into nursing school. don't know where yet, but hopefully sometime in the near future. i'm taking anatomy and physiology at a local university and here is how the grading works....we have a lecture and a lab, but instead of getting two seperate grades, we only get one. lecture is 50% and lab is 50%, and then the combine them. I'm used to getting a seperate grade for lecture and for lab. how did you guys get graded in this class?

thanks

Whoa that's really weird. We get graded on labs and lectures separately I've never even heard of that being done.

Our school is the same. It's a 4 semester hour class, but you go at two different class times. However, you get ONE grade. If you fail one, you fail both.

hey everyone, thanks for the input. i just don't like having one total grade. i'm better at the lecture and wish that was weighted higher. like say 80% lecture, 20% lab.

have a nice weekend

I have taken several lab courses and they were all done this way. Typically our lab percentage was not as high as the lecture, for example lecture was worth about 70% and lab 30%. We would get seperate grades for whatever assignments but in the end it was added up and combined to lecture grades. not sure if I said that right or if I understand the posters question.

thanks for the answer....i was thinking that the class should be the way you had it...70% for lecture, 30% for lab. but mine is splie 50/50. i just can't believe the lab is weighed as equal to the lecture. you can't really get your hands on the stuff to study for the lab, so i'm really worried.

but thanks for the info

my school has a weird policy too. The actual class is 4 credits and the lab counts as zero. Ours is like 48% Lab and 52% lecture. They're separate and the teachers are usually different. The lab teacher has to turn the grades into the lecture teacher, who then averages them out. That makes it a little more difficult to find out what you have overall.

I like how are grading system is set up. Our Anatomy class is 4 credits. Here is how everything breaks down for us:

Tests: 60%

Lab Practicals: 20%

Lab Quizes: 5%

Final: 15%
