Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

i just calculated my gpa using the TWU website. after doing so, my gpa currently stands at a 3.561. im taking chemistry, nutrition, microbiology, and speech this semester and im really hoping for all As in these classes. well, i calculated my hypothetical gpa which included As in the 4 classes im taking this semester and it changed to a 3.654. my question is, is a 3.654 good enough to get into TWU nursing school? well if anyone could please reply when they get a chance i would really appreciate it. thanks yall! have a great day!

I believe it is atleast that is what I have heard. but then again every semester is a little different. you should be proud of yourself that is a great GPA congrats

Unfortunately, you never know until you apply. Rest assured, yours is a great GPA!

Good luck!!!!!!!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but unfortunately I don't think that it is. It is my understanding that for the last class the cut off was 3.77 and this coming year it will be 3.8. Check out this thread https://allnurses.com/forums/f175/any-twu-spring-2006-applicants-110588.html

BUT, I would not just take someone's word for it on a messageboard. Call them up and ask! ETA: BSN programs are super competitive here in this part of Texas. You should def. apply to more than one program if you are very serious about being a nurse, including one or two ADN ones for back up purposes.

For DCCCD (El Centro/North Lake)'s Spring '06 program, only 4.0's got accepted. So, while I do agree to apply several different places, don't necesssarily think that the ADN will be a backup.

I've always heard TWU was hard to get into. I also agree that you should call TWU ask what GPA was accepted for Spring '06.

Things aren't that bad, yet, here in Houston and in some of the other ADN programs near Houston. I'm basing my recommendation on this area.

It was just a freak thing that happened. I'm not even sure if it's ever happened before.

I know the the previous two semesters was 3.77. You really never know who will be applying.

It's all a total guessing game. :( It may drop down to the minimum 2.5 next semester. ...No way to tell. :uhoh3:

Not thinking it's gonna work for TWU.

Oh, well I have one year left to complete all my pre-reqs. I think I'll spend the entire year praying that this is what happens before I get in. I may just host several prayer "get Seekingnur into a BSN program" vigils. :rotfl:

ETA: I am NOT saying this to discourage you. Your gpa is great, it's the system that's messed up. I plan to apply everywhere.

:chuckle I'll light a candle for you, and you light one for me, OK? :chuckle Good luck to ya, and never give up! :)

I also want to note, that if you are latina(o) you may have slightly better chances of getting in as TWU as made it a priority to recruit more nurses of color and people of Hispanic decent into their program. They just got a grant (announced on their webpage for the nursing program) to do just that.

I think the state of affirmative action is pretty low in Texas (illegal no?) so I doubt' they'd call it that or even fess up to giving a little more weight to Hispanic applicants, but I don't see how else they will meet their goals.

Just drop an email to the nursing advisor, I've done that for all the colleges I'm interested in and they write back with all the info I've asked. For my area (which is about 3 hours east of Dallas) the average GPA for admission is more like 3.44 or 3.42.
