i am a valencia student trying to get into ucf college of nursing. i currently have a gpa of 3.5, passed the teas with an 87%, and passed all but 2 of my prerequs with a's( the other 2 were b's). does anyone know if this is competitive enough to get into the program? should i be worried?

You will probably want to apply both to UCF's program and to the concurrent program (Seminole State College has a concurrent program with UCF if Valencia does not). GPAs of 3.7-8 minimum seem to be the standard for the UCF program by itself. It all depends on the applicant pool for the term you are applying. Good luck!

the application period for seminole/ucf ends thurday for the spring term. my situation is quite similar so i would suggest to be optimistic and just apply. i applied to three schools already. go to the ucf nursing advisor at the valencia west campus ucf center and she can go over things with you. i met her last week and she said i definitely have a great chance for the basic ucf program for the fall. my gpa is just a bit higher 3.7 but everything else is the same. by the way, valencia is starting a pilot concurrent program just like seminole's in the fall of 2011 as well, although this is by invitation only. she did say that anyone with less than a 3.4 may not have a chance... but you are there and your teas is very good, 95th percentile... what i was told is that they actually consider not only the gpa but the teas score (with mos weight given to your reading score) and they also analyze how you took your requirements. for example if you took one science course at a time and got an a versus those of us (like i did against everyone's advice) took micro and a&p ii at the same time in the summer and got an a and b. they are impressed by your ability to handle that kind of work load. hope it helps...
:rolleyes:wonderful! i took micro, ap2, and sociology over the condensed summer term, earning all a's. hope that bodes well for me. thanks for the information!
yes, i took at third class as well and got an a so that is helpful. also, even though your teas score is quite high, you might want to consider taking it again before you apply but the advisor said that although you are allowed to take it 30 days after your first attempt, they really do not consider the new attempt if you take it that quickly and that is better to wait until the following quarter so i am taking it again in january. it can only help to raise it up since that might be the difference between you and another applicant so why not? besides it seems that 3.5 is the cutoff, or at least, that's what i keep hearing in all these meetings and advisement sessions i have attended so your teas can definitely push you up on the list. from all of my research and in talking to so many people, i find that the average teas is somewhere in the high 70s so you are way ahead of the game... good luck. i am going for the 99th percentile in my next attempt
good luck to you! i know that whatever happens, god has my path already planned. i can rest in that. i hope you achieve what you are working towards. thanks for the correspondence.

Are these reported GPAs CUM or pre-req?
My GPA is cumulative. I have a higher prereq GPA.

Are they looking at Prereq GPA or total GPA? Does anybody know?
Prereq gpa is of utmost importance. As I mentioned before, my overall was only 3.6, but my prereq was 4.0. They are really interested in how you did in your core science classes. I went in to talk to the director and they told me that it was my TEAS of 87.1 and prereq scores that got me in.
Swarner5,
When are you starting or when if you already did?
I am scheduled to start in late August with the Fall 2011 BSN track.
