Question about Common Meds

Featured Replies

Oh wow..That's gonna be a heck of a list

Um, almost everyone on my unit gets lovenox and protonix. We do lots of digoxin, lasix, cardizem and lopressor. Predisone and solu-medrol are also really popular. Just about every antibiotic and pain med too. Phenergan for the nausea they get from the abx and narcs. I know there are a million more, but I can't think of them right now. Good luck in school

I think there's already a thread about this somewhere....

Add a few ... K-Dur, nitroglycerin (ointment, etc.), heparin, insulin--it comes in many forms, pepcid, lipitor, vasotec, ativan.

Oh, the list could go on & on!

The holy trinity on trauma step-down: Percocet, Lovenox , and docusate. dont know if its the docs or what, but every patient is on these.

Ahhh and dont forget the Carafate, Multivitamins, ferrous sulfate.

Depakote, Colace, Xanax and Prevacid. Oh, and on my unit the big ones are Haldol, Remeron, Ativan, and Risperdal.

We call in so many prescriptions every day, I don't think I could even begin to list them. You might be better off to learn what the different categories of drugs do...learn what ACE inhibitors do, what cox-2s do, what second generation penicillins do, etc...

Depends on your specialty. In the ER we use a lot of pain meds (Demerol, morphine, Ty-Co, Vicodin, Toradol) and cardiac stuff: nitro, thrombolytics. Lots of antibiotics: Rocephin, amoxicillin, Keflex.
