Hello to Everyone,
I am a perspective nursing student here in CA. As some of you may know there is an enormous waiting list in order to get into the nursing program.
I have heard people waiting from 1 year to 2 years to get in.
Can anyone here share their experiences regarding the wait time they took before being accepted into the program???
thanks!!!!

If I remember right I think I got accepted a year after I applied in 1988 to a community college (there was a year waiting list back then) I took all my pre-reqs while I was finishing paramedic classes. I worked part time as an agency nurse aid then a medic while I went to nursing school, got pregnant during my first year (stress can do that). I had a c-section mid August so had to take a year off from nursing classes cuz I couldn't drive nor lift for a while. I wasn't sure if I would be readmitted the following year as they put me on a waiting list. Someone either quit or transferred so I was allowed to finish my second year right after my year off.
Geeze, looks like I had lots of warnings that this might not be an easy career LOL.
I love it though, always something new around the corner.

Went to a community college in San Diego County. Was told the wait list was 1-2 yrs. Got in after 6 months....
Good luck!

SD information:
I have known students join Maric College's ADN program (for- profit college, rather expensive, priority given to students who took prerequisites there) after five years of being told they were at the top of the call list if someone dropped out of a community college program.
The ones I knew finally just paid the price to get RN more quickly (which you could argue is cheaper in the long run as you are out earning as an RN).
Also, at least one community college ran a lottery for places, although I do not know the current situation.
I believe USD was given funding for two extra faculty members, but this is a four year, also expensive, program. I do not know what the waiting time is.

Each system and each school gets to make its own rules, and their admissions policies tend to be based largely on supply and demand.
In general: (as with most things), the less expensive the school, the longer the wait. The more expensive, the shorter the wait.
So if you are in a hurry for some reason, check out the more expensive private schools.
And you can apply to several schools at the same time and see which one admits you first.
