prospective student

Hi iam 31 and hoping to get into northern college sept 2004. i have a lot of catching up to since i've been out of school for so long. I must have 5 OAC (grade 13) courses by may, and i have nly started one. I have no chemistry background and i am worried that i will not be able to pass that course. Does anyone have any words of encouragment because i am truly depressed right now. I am not worried about the english and the bio (a bit) but i am really scared to do chemistry. And how much chemistry is involved in nursing.

This may seem like really simple advice, but a lot of students don't follow it. Keep at it every single day, and study, study, study. Don't fall behind.

If the subject is difficult, a lot of students will put things off until the last minute and try to cram. It works for a few, but not the vast majority, and they fail.

Believe it not, the more you study and start to get the hang of it, the easier it will come to you --- as long as you don't give up and hang in there. It's always the beginning that's most difficult.

Also, a lot of teachers will try to weed students out by assigning a ton of work at the beginning of the semester. They tend to do this if the class is overcrowded and they're trying to lessen the load.

Don't panic if that happens. They'll often ease up a little bit once people drop the class and it gets down to a manageable size.

Hi there,

You know, one of my biggest fears before I even started taking the prereqs for Nursing was just the word Chemistry!!!! It conjured up all sorts thoughts, like I'll never be able to do it, I hate math and I can't do word problems....blah, blah, blah. Well, guess what????It turned out to be one of my favorite courses, I understood the concepts, and it was black and white for me. What helped me was taking my Algebra before taking Chem 12, some of the word problems in Chemistry demand that you problem solve using conversions. I ended up with an A-, so I was pretty happy with that. You will do fine, if you do the homework and listen attentively to your instructor in class.
