Proposal for L/D or Postpartum units..ideas???

Hi everyone..

I have a project to do for school, and was wondering if I could get any advice on topics. My assignment is to write a proposal to potentially implement a procedure/manual or some sort of education (either to my nursing staff or patients) regarding a need/problem. The problem/need should be based on significant amount of research evidence. ANY SUGGESTIONS ..for example a friend implemented the NIPS scale (pain assessment for infants; fall prevention ideas; pt education topics???)

ANy ideas would be awesome!! I was thinking about implementing staff education regarding practicing Kangaroo Care for our deliveries.

Hmmm thinking about common issues that I see at work:

Breastfeeding teaching/education program - some sort of class/education program to help moms learn things like latch, etc

Creation of care packages for breastfeeding moms.

Creation of care packages for circumcision care (ie vasaline, educational materials)

I'd say those things are great because I have lots of teaching to give on that and even with the teaching we give, there is never enough time to really get it all out there. The patients I'm sure still have lots of questions by the time they leave even though we try to address everything. But I don't know how much research is on the topic.

Maybe something about the use of numbing agents or other analgesia for circumcision procedures. I'm sure you can find research on that topic. It's a pretty hot topic.

you rock! i have the same project going on and was just thinking about what i should do and found this. i previously did research on circumcision and the different meds vs other meds so your circ topic - awesome for me......and it was sooo hard for me to choose whether or not i would do that to my son! (i did, but i made damn sure he had meds galore).. thanks thanks thanks
