Pacific Union College LVN to RN
Best program ever. The professors for the most part are really supportive. Classes are only 4 days a month, but it's mega intense with A LOT of information to go through. You really have to study in between classes to really understand. I had to take the TEAS and the ACTs in order for them to accept my application. I barely made the cut off. I would work on ramping up your test scores. A couple of my class mates say that their friends with higher GPAs than me didn't get accepted. I'm guessing test scores play a big hand in acceptance.

Integrity and abuse vs Safety
State has been notified ombadsman is aware. It seems like any intervention we try to turn to, we seem to be stuck with her. We've tried moving her, transferring her. We're all stuck in a rut heh. At least that's what management and social services department tells me Trust me, everything is documented. She tells her family I punched her in the mouth and stole her tooth.

Integrity and abuse vs Safety
All of that has been offered and refused. And when she wants to smoke she wants to smoke NOW. Heh. Typically we can get someone to supervise when she goes against schedule to prevent a problem, but there are many occasions where things are so hectic on the floor with other residents it's hard to step away.

Integrity and abuse vs Safety
We have 5150 her multiple times but police arrive she stops and police do nothing . We changed out facility to non smoking but then it was changed back. Apparently it was illegal to revoke that right? We tried to get her to leave but no facility will take care. I'm told we can't just boot her, she has to have a place to go. She's not demented total care with muscular dystrophy.

Integrity and abuse vs Safety
Family members bring it to her. They're all aware not to do so but they do anyway. Let me know she has things like that are social services department search her belongings and confiscat them but she keeps getting more. Same with the other residents but she's the only one who reacts as abusively and explosively.

Integrity and abuse vs Safety
So in my SNF in California, there is a patient in a wheelchair with bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, and can be immensely verbally and physically abusive. Our facility received an IJ for safety from state a few years ago because the patient showed the state surveyor that she had a lighter. Smoking policies have been implemented, scheduling smoking times that are supervised, smoking apron, etc. Of course, no patient should have a lighter. Cut to now, patient is attempting to unlock the front doors at 9:30 PM, after visiting hours to go smoke. She has a lighter and cigarettes. The dilemma is, 1) the patient should be prevented from smoking to prevent self injury- Safety 2) if we stop the patient, then the only way to get her away from the doors is to push her in her wheelchair against her will- Abuse and Integrity In addition, any attempts to keep her from the door leads to an onslaught of verbal and physical abuse which also deviates nurse from their work from their floor. Normally, we would have someone stand with supervise, however, at the situation, it was change of shift and clinical emergencies were happening on the floor and staff could not take the time to supervise her as she usually smokes more than one cigarette. What is the correct course of action? Do we just bite the bullet and have someone leave the floor to supervise her with all the clinical stuff going on? This is an ongoing issue and I understand we have reached out to many resources in attempts to manage this situation. Any idea or tips to or resources that can help manage the situation?

Pacific Union College LVN to RN
UPDATE: I found out I got accepted into the program! I application deadline was April 15 and I got my acceptance letter June 10. I'm hoping it wasn't a tough call from the admitting committee, especially because of my GPA. I guess I was just looking for reassurance with the admitting stats I had. So if anyone applies, I feel like this is one of the lower brackets you can be in with your GPA and get accepted! Haha Its crunch time now though, if I want to pursue to Masters. I haven't gone through the program yet and I had no luck contacting others who have gone through the program to talk about their experiences, so here is my email: [email protected]. It would have been nice to talk to someone before hand, so if I disappear off the forums, you guys can contact me later as I progress through the program.

Pacific Union College LVN to RN
Hey team! I applied for the 2017 term for PUCs LVN to RN program. The other threads on here are dead and a few years old. Can anyone share their experiences in the program? I applied with a 3.28 GPA TEAS 84% ACT 28. Any idea of my chances are of getting accepted? I've never been to a college other than community so I've never been rejected heh. Mega nervous. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Pacific Union College acceptance
Hello! I have applied to the LVN to RN and PUC as well. I'm also from Fairfield! I've never applied to big kid college before some I'm real anxious. I don't hear about results till June. I was wondering, since you should almost be done or already finished if you can give me an insight of how I stand of being accepted, based on what you've experienced? I have a 3.28 GPA scored 82% on my TEAS and 28 on my ACT's. Think I stand a chance? My GPA's a bit on the lower side so I'm real nervous heh. Hopefully we can get in touch!

DVT interventions
Uhoh that's news to me

DVT interventions
So I got talked to by my DON today because I didn't follow the proper protocols in nursing interventions involving a resident and possible DVT. Therapy brought to my attention that resident was experiencing pain to BLE. this isn't new. Resident has hx. of gout and chronic generalized pain r/t being in a car accident. Pain is typically relieved through PRN pain med regimen. Therapy asked if it was possible for DVT. I assessed and noted that there was no swelling, redness, or warmth to either extremity. Capilarry refill within normal limits. When homans sign was assessed, resident did not explicitly state specific discomfort behind the knee when foot was dorsiflexed. "Its just painful all over" when attempted to assess if onset of discomfort was occurred specifically when foot was flexed, resident continued to complain of generalized BLE as opposed to specific discomfort behind the knee. I made a simple progress note of findings of assessment and requested an ultra sound just to rule out possibility of DVT. My DON said my error was that I didn't fill out a specific documentation and stressed that my interventions were not enough to cover myself and to protect my license. I understand completely where she was coming from and I'm going to make sure I follow protocol more closely, but in terms of putting my license in danger, were my interventions really lacking enough to the point where the clinical concern was going to go unaddressed? I made my assesment, documented, and notified MD with recommendations. I'm a little embarrassed really because I thought that I covered my channels. Any insight? I would love to grow from this experience.
