I work for Methodist. I like the system as a whole. The patient ratios are usually more reasonable but the pay is less. Baptist and St Francis pay more, but the ratios are crazy high.

Every city has its good and bad. I grew up around the Nashville area, but I honestly love Memphis more. Both are good cities. If you do decide on Memphis, I can offer advice on some areas you might feel comfortable living.

Yep, I'm already in TN. I went to UTHSC for my BSN so I really hope I get in. It would be nice to go to a school I'm familiar with. I'm beyond nervous. I think my interview went well but they said they are only accepting 25 students ? good luck to you!! Are you outside of TN?

Not yet. I know at the end of my interview they told me when they would let us know, but I was so nervous that I forgot what date they said! Hopefully soon!

Hi everyone. I made this post to connect with others that might be applying to the FNP program at UTHSC. I have my interview today and I am excited/ nervous.

Multiple people interviewed me. They asked what made me want to pursue nursing, what motivates me, what my strengths and weaknesses are. I can't remember what else. So far I am enjoying the program. The semesters are broken into 10 week blocks. The first 10 weeks for the first semester were very test heavy and there was a lot of material to learn. During the second 10 weeks, we started clinicals. I just started the second semester on 1/2 so we'll see how this semester goes.

I applied for the Accelerated program too and was offered a spot on the wait-list. I decided to accept at UTHSC instead of hoping that I would be high enough on LCON's wait-list because I really want to start in the Fall. My science GPA is a 4.0 and my overall GPA is 3.16 (goofed around a bit during my first degree:/)

If you already have a Bachelor's degree in another field, UTHSC will waive the TEAS requirement. I was so happy not to have to take it. So I would definitely encourage you guys to apply at UTHSC if you can. It's unfortunate that LCON is taking so long. I was trying to wait to hear back from them before accepting UTHSC, but I didn't want to get to close to the deadline.

I've heard that they are short staffed now so it took them some time to review all of the applications. Another applicant called them and was told that they will send letters by the end of the month. I was also accepted to UTHSC and the deadline to let them know my decision is March 31. I was trying to wait to hear back from LCON before deciding but I didn't want to miss an opportunity so I accepted UTHSC today.

UTHSC just called me on Friday to tell me I've been accepted! I want to wait until I hear back from LCON before I make my decision, but I'm very excited and nervous!

Sorry for the essay style responses, but I saw these admission requirements on their website. Admission - UGCatalog - University of Memphis Achievement of a minimum college cumulative GPA of 2.7 at the time of application. Completion of all prerequisite courses prior to enrollment; a minimum grade of "C" must be earned. Accelerated BSN admission criteria include a baccalaureate degree and completion of Math 1530 or equivalent. Completion of two of three (2 of 3) prerequisite science courses at the time of application and all three prior to enrollment. Science courses include: Anatomy & Physiology I (with lab), Anatomy & Physiology II (with lab), and Microbiology (with lab). Applicants are required to complete prerequisite science courses seven (7) years of LCON admission earning a minimum combined GPA of 2.66. One (1) science course may be repeated one time only; the second earned letter grade of the repeated course will be used in the science GPA calculation. The first letter grade for the remaining two (2) science courses will be used in the science GPA calculation. Students with two (2) or more science courses in-progress at the time of application will be considered for admission with completion of two (2) college general science courses (for science majors) earning a grade of "C" or better on the first attempt. The highest 1st attempt course grades will be used in the science GPA calculation. Preference will be given to those students who completed all science pre- requisites and meet the required GPA at the time of application.

I'm wondering the same thing! So I was looking back at older LCON threads and it seems like the decision letters were sent out about 1 month after the registration period ended. So if that's the case, we should hear something around March 15th. That's just my best estimate. I am trying to keep myself from obsessively checking my status. One person from the Spring application season said that the status will remain "Under Review" pretty much up until they send out letters. I sent an email to the program because I was wondering if they would take into account the fact that I have courses in progress. The woman said that they just review our transcripts and there is no need to send supporting documents of courses in progress. That makes me nervous because one of my pre-reqs is currently in progress at Southwest and another I will complete this summer so those won't be visible on my UM transcript. I have a ton more questions, but I don't want to bug them either.

That doesn't sound too bad then. I'll have to think on it a bit. It would be nice to have the reduced stress.

One of my friend just told me that one of her buddies failed out of the accelerated program recently :-( I'm worried, but I would really rather do the accelerated program than do another 4 year program. I also want to go a step further after my BSN, but I haven't completely decided. I was thinking an MSN in nursing informatics because I currently work in IT and enjoy it. But I also was thinking NP. Anyways, I think that the accelerated program is doable it's just going to be extremely tough.

My advisor at UM told me I could apply but I might not get in if someone else with my similar qualifications also applied but already had all of their sciences complete. But I still thought it was better to try. You should apply too.

I haven't heard too much about the program at LCON. When I was at UM the first time, I had a friend that failed out of the nursing school :/ but we were younger and arguably less hard working. I think that our experience with our first degrees will give us an advantage going forward. Also, the program may have evolved since then so it's hard to know. For UTHSC's Nursing program, I know a bit. I work in the IT department so I have the chance to see the student each day. At the beginning of the semester and up until right past the first exam, all of them seem pretty stressed. After the first exam, most students seem to settle into a rhythm. So hopefully the program isn't too terrible.
