Brachytherapy and blood contamination
Im studying for an exam and one of the topics is brachytherapy. One of the practice questions asked if blood was contaminated when a pt has intra-cavity brachytherapy. I figured it as a no, but i am not sure and cant seem to find the information in my textbook. Some students disagree with me also, so now i am stuck. I figured the radiation stayed within the source -pill, disc etc.. and the energy ionized out of it and the blood became contaminated with chemotherapy etc.. Can anyone clear this up for me, I ended up just confusing myself further on the subject. Thanks in advance for any assistance

Help with a nursing diagnosis
Hopefully this is a simple question. I've scoured the web and my books as best I could, im looking to see if its appropriate to use a medical diagnosis as a related factor of a nursing diagnosis, IE: can i use diagnosed schizoaffective disorder as a related factor with disturbed thought process or impaired verbal communication. not the case, im just pipcking a few things out of the air. I hope this isnt too stupid, i honestly thought i heard somewhere this was acceptable, but cant find the language to back it up. Thanks for any and all asistance

Male student enters OB room. What do you think?
You know, I'd fight it. Id make a big stink and raise all holy hell. its total bs that you have to repeat a course with no clear indication of why you have to retake it. If there is a policy that there are no males in OB then the instructor should have told you before going to the freaking OB floor. If there is no food in the labor area, why would they deliver it and why would a room full of people who supposedly know the rules not just say, Im sorry no food in here" Im not sure i believe the whole thing, but if it is true, then you were clearly wronged. There is a correct way to approach female patients as a male, but there has to also be some guidance from your instructor as to what , if anything you did wrong. You cant help it youre a man, if a patient has an issue with you, its on them to let someone know, No Males Please and its as simple as that. I had a PT who said she'd prefer her bed bath from a female, its a simple fix, get a female to do it. There has to be communication, not just blanket punishment

ATI?!?!
I really don't like ati, the website sucks, its always laggy even on the best of connections and you get randomly disconnected. I recently took the fundamentals proctored exam. I clicked submit and it kicked me off. Had to re-log and hope to god my test took. It did but it still scared me. You would think for all he money you pay for the service it would work a little better.

Study Tips for the Over 50 Nurse
Form your own opinions, just because people say OMG this is so hard certainly does not mean it will be for you. Have faith in your age, when yore young things may come naturally a lot easier to you, but when youre older you have experiences that help more than you will realize. Being out of school a while is no detriment to your success, id be willing to bet money its easier for people 40 + to stay focused on the task at hand just do to the fact that they've lived and learned how to prioritize and focus down a goal.

In need of study tips that won't fail!
Get the biggest cheapest greaseboard you can find. dray what youre trying to learn and label it using your book/notes as a guide (this helped me a ton in a&p 1 and 2 and also in first semester of nursing school) . Now erase the labels , wait a few minutes and study something else . comeback to the board and label the items. do this for like 5 inutes at a time ever 20 - 30 mins. after a few hours youll be able to draw the whole thing labels and all by heart. I think something to do with making the mistakes helps. When i made a mistake and went awww crap, It sticks in my head and that piece is locked in my mind then. Works for me, but I tend to learn a lot more from failing something once than I do by brute force studying. Hope it helps

Having trouble studying
Thank you for the replies so far everyone, I truly appreciate it. I generally learn by doing and repetition, and also diagramming systems/concepts. I am having difficulty succinctly putting the trouble I'm having into words, but i do thank you all for your help :-) B

Having trouble studying
Sorry to butt in everyone, but im having a little difficulty studying. I'm a first year AAS nursing student at a local community college. I did well in my core classes and A&P etc, however the structure of the nursing program is throwing me fits. Im more than willing to put in the time and focus on this, and trust me , I have put it a lot in the first two weeks. Its the format that is giving me trouble. Some chapters we read 10 pages and move on to another chapter etc. They're all seemingly related, but its hard to focus down and put in the work for it. I take notes and review them, i review the printed powerpoints, but when it gets to the questions at the end of a chapter I'm still swinging and missing. I think Ill do well once i figure out the correct way to study for this , but its getting over that hump of something new. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. B
