  1. I did 2 clinical rotations at WellMed at Remcon; 7430 Remcon Circle, 584-7001. The only problem is that it took about 6 weeks to get all paperwork for site completed. I graduated from Georgetown University online FNP program about 1 year ago.
  2. RN2bNP Thanks! I worked full time 36 hours for 1/2 the program (one year) and then PRN 24 hours a week for the last year. I switched to PRN when I had 2-3 clinical days a week. The first semester was difficult and I spent almost all of my free time studying. Pathophysiology was very difficult and had at least 6-8 hours of lecture videos with power points to read and watch. I usually skimmed the text book, but studied from the power points. I only received one B and that was in pathophys. I did part-time and had 2 classes every semester, except for the last semester. Pharmacology is just about memorizing the drug classes. Once I started the FNP courses, my studying time varied on how difficult the topics were. My best advice is to keep up with the work and don't get behind. Also keep in touch with your cohort. My cohort has a facebook group and it is helpful to vent and lift each other up. Good luck with your application. It is a great but challenging program.
  3. Congratulations! I graduated from Georgetown with my MSN a few weeks ago. It is a tough but great program. I recommend that you actively search for your preceptor each semester. The biggest complaint is that the placement team is not helpful and they find sites that are one or two hours away. Also buy a FNP review book when you start FNP 1, they summarize and explain topics well. My favorite review books are by Maria Leik and Margaret Fitzgerald.
  4. I took the AANP exam today and I passed! I am so glad to be done! I used Leik, Fitzgerald, Hollier, and exam-edge practice tests. I studied from Leik and Hollier the most. I really enjoyed listening to Amelie (Hollier) a few times and never got bored with the CDs. I know that many people swear by Fitzgerald bit I got bored and sometimes the review was too in-depth and not specific for preparing for AANP. I also read several posts and tips from other people on this board. Now, it is time to celebrate and good luck to people taking the exam soon!
  5. Congrats!!! :nurse:Thanks for the tips, I take it next Tuesday.
  6. Yes I got an email and a phone call.
  7. Thanks. Yes, I do start in August. I hope that you hear something soon.
  8. Hi, I just got accepted into the FNP program at Georgetown. I was wondering if any one got accepted too. I would also love to hear from current or past FNP students.
  9. First try, 75 questions and passed. I've been an RN for about 2.5 months
  10. Graduated May 10th, tested July 3rd, and started working July 8th. I got hired in March because I got a loan/scholarship from the hospital: receive 3,500 and commit 1 year.
  11. Nursing school is hard but definitely worth it. As the above poster stated, you learn the basics. You should consider shadowing a nurse and see what that nurse does. I don't remember everything that I learned in school and I just graduated in May 08. I really enjoyed learning about the human body and most of the diseases that can occur. Just think that if nursing school was impossible, that there would not be any nurses in the world. Good luck.
  12. You can read more about the stethoscope here: https://allnurses.com/forums/f316/anymore-feedback-grx-medical-expert-cardiology-cd-27-stethoscope-315634.html
  13. I also just bought this stethoscope. You can buy it here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280249252588&ssPageName=MERC_VIC_RSCC_Pr4_PcY_BIN_Stores_IT&refitem=280249252159&itemcount=4&refwidgetloc=closed_view_item&usedrule1=StoreCatToStoreCat&refwidgettype=cross_promot_widget&_trksid=p284.m183&_trkparms=algo%3DDR%26its%3DS%252BI%252BSS%26itu%3DISS%252BUCI%252BSI%26otn%3D4
  14. I also just bought the above mentioned stethoscope and received it today. It works well on me and my family. I work tomorrow and I'll see if it works well on all of my patients.
  15. I also live in a border town and about 99% speak spanish in the lunch room. They also but the tv on a spanish only station. I'm a brand new nurse and it stinks that I can't understand what most of the coworkers and patients are saying. I can understand words every now and then and say a few phrases to patients. There would be a huge uproar if there was an english only rule. I just go with the flow and am trying to learn more spanish. In fact, one pt I had recently said in spanish (got translated: Didn't you go to school, why don't you know spanish?)
