  6. Hi everyone, Im planning to move to Houston,Tx but im just wondering if there are hospitals that covers 100% of enployee's medical including spouse and children. I dont want to pay a premium every month. I am currently employed in CA and i dont pay monthly premium for health insurance as my employer covers me and my family 100%. Is there such hospital that does that in houston?
  7. thabk you so much for the insights.. im open to any other insights about saunders

  9. is this book a good study guide (content-wise) for the nclex-rn? i've read in this forums that they go directly for uworld.
  10. saunders
  11. Please I am having an issue on this too. Passed my nclex Jan. 2008 and applied in CA BON. I already emailed them a few weeks ago and no reply. Tried to contact them by phone but was on hold for 2 hours so i gave up. Is there a way on how to get a copy of that pass letter? I've been working as a RN outside the US since 2008 up to present. For some reason i can't find a form from the CA BON on the request for an nclex pass letter. Please enlighten me with this one. I don't want to get to that hassle of retaking and sitting for the exam again.
  12. Yes I have worked as a license nurse outside the US 2008-present. Any thoughts on how I can get a copy of the nclex pass letter in CA?
  13. I agree to everything that u said. OR nurses are just underrated
  14. As easy as our work is, comes with a great responsibility. We are responsible for the overall flow of the OR. Some might think that we are servants of the surgeons, or a waiter and runner, or a secretary. But we are not. We are responsible for our patient especially their safety. Circulating can be easy but it comes with a great risk. Nerve damage, skin injury (burns, decubitus), patient falling off the OR table (which is just unbelievable but happened to some of my colleagues), wrong site surgery, RFO's, surgery on a wrong patient, Fire in the OR. Safety is key in the OR, without that there's a big chance that you could harm your patient. Just keep in mind, treat your patients like your own. Treat them like they're your loved one, cause if you do patients will thank u for advocating for them while they're under.
  15. Depends on the hospital policy. In our facility, we count 3 times; before incision, when cavity closure starts (open abdominal cases), and skin closure. As with CVOR, for valve cases, we count 4 times (before incision, valve closure, thoracic cavity closure and skin closure). As with CVOR it might sound a lot but it isn't really once u get to know the tray. It's fairly routine but take note, even if you know your tray well, u still have to look at what your counting and compare with the count sheet (ALWAYS!). You'll never know if there's an extra mosquito added mistakenly by SPD in your tray. So be very careful.
  16. if you really wanted to be NP in the OR, go for RNFA program. That will best suit u as a NP in the OR. But you will be competing with the PA's.
  17. CRNA's basically practice anesthesia with the supervision of MDA. That's what a CRNA friend told me. CRNA's are trained to do the trouble shooting that MDA's do. They're more on the critical thinking aspect.
  18. I had a friend who works as a CRNA in CA. It ranges from 120-140k. She said she can surpass family practice MD's but im not sure if it is true.
  19. The title says it all. I've passed the nclex january 2008 and california was the state where I applied but wasn't able to get a SSN. I'm a foreign graduate, been practicing as a nurse since 2008 until present outside the US. Due to retrogression, i was very negligent with my nclex pass letter and for some reason i lost it. Recently I received my SSN. Tried to call CA BON but to no avail after 2 hrs of being on hold. I know they're going to destroy my file. I've read posts here that they still got their license as long as they can get a SSN, but not as long as mine. It's been 8 years since i passed the test. Im so confused because i read mixed comments about nclex results being expired after x amount of years. What are the steps that i need to take? Do I have to get a copy of my pass letter and how do I do this? I tried NCSBN but california does not participate. I tried pearson vue but totally forgot about my account details (email and username) to view my test result. What are the steps that needs to be done? Please help, I just dont want to write the test again. Any advice and help is much appreciated.
  20. Great article. Very useful for a new grad OR RN
  21. In most or if not all hospitals, there's always somebody that you can't get along with especially in the OR, you will be dealing with a lot of people with different attitudes and different upbringing. In my experience, surgical techs who had long years (20-30) of experience tend to be dominant than the OR nurse with a 1 year of experience. That's okay as long as that surgical tech doesn't give you an attitude and belittle you instead of helping you out especially with cases that you're not familiar with and working as a team. Im not bashing surgical techs but from what I have observed some are really bossy and bullies the OR nurse with less experience. I just dont get that. Don't tell me they already know everything when they started working as a tech. Some are know it all some are humble. It just gets down to this question, and you can ask this question to techs that gives you an attitude, "Who is licensed here?". We as OR nurses are responsible for our scrub techs and it would be nice if we all work together as a team. Being able to scrub and circulate, I still have a sense of humility and I dont brag about anything. Never thought of that, as long as I can keep my patients safe, I am happy. Just remember, we are the angels in the sickroom. Everybody in the OR suite relies on the OR nurse.
  22. Im not saying that all surgeons are jerks. Some of them have the Napoleon Bonapart (sorry for the spelling) mindset. Some of them were bullied when they were on their teens and now they're trying to prove themselves. There's this one surgeon who is just plain jerk, and none of the nurses in our OR wants to work with him. I later found his soft side and he admitted that he's a geek, got bullied in his younger years and now wants to prove himself, does bullying staff.
  23. Golden rule for an OR nurse is patient safety and surgical conscience is one of them. Ask your colleagues about surgical conscience and that would be your foundation as an OR nurse
