  1. Hi everyone, So I am a med-surg RN and I have just finished my first year of being on the floor! I live in Chicago, and have been applying to jobs like crazy but am getting NO calls from hospitals around here. I have my IL and CA license. I am leaving my current job because the nurse-patient ratios are crazy. Sometimes as charge I can have up to 7-8 patients. Currently, I am going through a situation where I just got offered a job in San Diego on an ortho unit. They have not told me my base pay yet because they said they need HR to review my experience first, but they are offering me $2500 to relocate. However, I have heard that compared to other areas of California, San Diego has lower wages but high cost of living. I'd like knowing that I will have a permanent position, but I am afraid of permanently living out there. I have also been in contact with a nurse recruiter from a travel nursing agency who says the company will provide housing or a housing stipend, they will pay for medical/dental/vision insurance premiums, and they have "low census protection" so that I won't be at risk of getting cancelled and having to reimburse the agency if I barely work. I am looking for a position in California, and they said they will email me with potential matches tomorrow, but after looking on their website it looks like most of their assignments are in Northern California which I also like, but I like SoCal better. However, since I only have one year of experience, I am sure there may not be a lot of matches for me at the moment. I just don't know if which one I should choose. Has anyone worked in San Diego as an RN? How has your experience been working and living there? Also, has anyone had experience as a travel nurse? Any advice is helpful, thanks again!
  2. Hello everyone, so I just graduated from nursing school in May 2016 with my BSN, took my NCLEX in October and passed (I took it so late due to personal family problems occurring during the months between graduation and the NCLEX). I thought that would be the end of my stress but little did I know finding a job would be the next worst thing! I have no prior CNA experience (which I regret), but I have had jobs in the past. Since I passed, I have been working full-time as a store manager at a clothing store I used to work at when i was in high school. I've been trying to hard to apply since then, but no luck. I must be doing something wrong because it shouldn't be this hard for a grad with no experience to find a job! However, I recently got a call and interview from a family planning clinic. It is a part-time job, but would pay more than my current full-time job. I was excited at first because I really want to do maternal/child health and OB which is my passion, but then I realized that it's not quite OB. As many of you know, they deal with STD testing, pregnancy testing, birth control, OB services, and abortions (please leave your religious thoughts to yourself, i don't want this to turn into a religious argument) which i'm not against it, but it scares me and makes me think that I should be a nurse helping pregnancies progress and grow, not helping them end. So my question is, should I take this job in the hopes of someday pursuing my dream as an OB nurse? Will this job help me pursue my path at all? Do any of you have any experience at a family planning clinic or starting off at one? Any insight would be great, as I am lost right now. Thank you everyone!!
  3. I just checked quick results a few minutes ago and I passed!!
  4. Congratulations!! I just took mine yesterday and am still waiting for my quick results. I keep getting the good pop-up even 24 hours later, but i'm a little skeptical. But i do agree that UWorld is one of the bet study aids for NCLEX. I have yet to hear about someone who used UWorld and failed.
  5. I too am waiting for my results, it is literally the worst waiting game i've ever experienced. I keep getting the good pop-up just like you, and 100% of people i've talked to who have gotten the good pop-up passed. So i'm very hopeful that you passed! Best of luck to you!!
  6. CONGRATS!!! I'm so happy to hear that you have passed and now will be able to live your dream as an RN. You seem very smart and hard-working. You'll be an amazing nurse!
  7. I understand how you feel, I took mine yesterday and waiting is absolutely the worst feeling in the world. Although it may not be 100%, have you ever tried the Pearson Vue Trick?
  8. I took it at 8 am this morning, and have been getting the good pop-up so I'm hopeful. However, my quick results are not yet available on the Pearson Vue website. I will check again tomorrow morning and keep you updated!
  9. Wow, thats awesome! That makes me feel alot better about my time frame. Thank you!
  10. Okay I submitted payment, and it gave me a note saying "Our records indicate that you have recently scheduled this exam..." This is the good pop-up right?
  11. I typed in all the correct info, but did not submit it. I used a debit card that is not expired, but does not work anymore (it has been inactivated). Does that still make a difference?
  12. Hi everyone, so I just finished my NCLEX for the first time. I got 75 questions but feel really bad about it because I finished it in about an hour. I feel like that is too short of a time to utilize critical thinking skills and be able to think through the questions. I tried the Pearson Vue Trick about an hour after I finished. And got the "good pop-up," so I felt a little more confident about my exam. An hour later I tried it again, and I got the "bad pop-up." I tried it a few more times and got the bad pop-up the next few times I tried it. I know that the PVT isn't 100%, but has this ever happened to anyone? Just wondering because I haven't heard any stories about anyone's PVT results changing. I feel like I should've stopped checking it after the first "good pop-up" because now I feel so nervous.
