Memorial Hermann-Nurse Residency Spring 2018
I didn't feel so good afterwards either but I got a call yesterday morning that I've been offered a spot on the medicine unit!! Official offer will be coming late this week or early next but that was a lot sooner than I expected! I did interview on the 23rd though. Best of luck to all and I hope everyone hears something soon!!

So I don't know what information you have, but the book we used was "Focus on Nursing Pharmacology" by Amy M. Karch, 7th edition. Great book, I know we and the professors liked it so I would think it'd be the same again. Are you getting that big package though?

How to apply for St. Luke's graduate nurse residency
Hi all! I'm wondering if any current nursing students have applied for St. Luke's graduate nurse residency, because I'm having a hard time finding where to apply! Or if you have applied in the past, or are currently in the program, how did you do it?

Student wanting clarification on CPR in ED
It was fantastic! It was only 2 shifts, so more of an introduction to the ED, but I learned a ton and it was quite an experience. There were no codes, so my question never ended up being relevant, but plenty of trauma. The most acute trauma case was a head injury from riding a motorcycle without a helmet. During the process, everything was so fast-paced that it wasn't until he was off to surgery that it really hit me how crazy it was, and he was so young. But I suppose that's a day in the life of the ED! I really appreciated how much everyone works together much more closely compared with other specialties. The residents and doctors and RT's and nurses are all just one big team. And I got plenty of practice starting IV's!

That makes sense! Thank you!

Student wanting clarification on CPR in ED
Sweet, thanks! So how often do you do breaths at that point? Still 30:2? Seems hard to tell if you're not stopping compressions.

Student wanting clarification on CPR in ED
Apologies if this is in the wrong place. Also want to preface that I've been trying to find answers to this for a while and for some reason can't figure it out! I will be doing a short ER rotation as a student nurse starting tomorrow and wanted to make sure I know enough about codes to be able to jump in if I can. I remember from my CPR class it's 2 breaths every 30 compressions. Do you stop compressions to do breaths? I remember that if you're alone doing CPR you only do compressions as that's the priority, but in an ED you've got a massive team. If you don't stop compressions, how exactly are you timing the breaths, since you'll probably get in a dozen compressions during the time it takes to give them? I'm sure I'm massively overthinking this and it's not an exact science but I do want to have it straight in my head and I hope you all are of the philosophy of no dumb questions :) :)

UTHealth Nursing Spring 2017
I got in too! But I'm the one who commented earlier about getting into UH's ABSN program and having to accept/decline by Oct. 14th. And I accepted since I wasn't sure I'd get in to UT. But look at that! So here's one spot that's opening up to anyone who gets on the waiting list. My stats just for the record: GPA: 3.9 Science/prereq GPA: 4.0 HESI: 94% (Science 84, Reading 92, English 96, Math 98, Vocab 100, Grammar 96)

Since insurance doesn't usually cover titers, I've had luck with anylabtestnow.com (close to where I live, but there are plenty of other labs) and RediClinic. Flu and Tdap I'm getting at Walgreens.

UTHealth Nursing Spring 2017
Well, I got into UH's second degree program. Just sent my acceptance of the invitation so it's official! UTHealth started off as my first choice, but slowly slid down and now they can't have me! I havent heard hardly anything from them this whole time anyway... I had to let UH know by Oct. 14 and UT doesn't let us know anything until November so I guess my decision is made. Best of luck to all you guys!!

That's the numbers I heard as well! All day every email notification I got made my heart rate spike! Especially the last one from Crystal... until I read that we won't hear anything until Friday now! Bummer!!

UTHealth Nursing Spring 2017
Yeah, I've been frustrated with UTH as well... Over the summer I had a couple questions and both times I emailed I didn't get a response and had to track down someone else's email who then referred it back to the original person I emailed who finally got back to me... and with one-sentence, unhelpful replies. And that's the only contact I've had with anyone through this whole process. Everything is fine on my to-do list so that's okay but it just doesn't sit quite right. In contrast, I've also applied to UH's ABSN program and they've been extremely available, helpful, and communicative through the whole process. UT's still my top choice but it is definitely frustrating.

Just got the blue card too! Did the fingerprints on the 12th so I guess that took 8 business days. Now just to prep for the actual interview part! Getting close!

Will we be writing an essay or submitting any sort of written piece? And if so where was that, I don't remember seeing it! Just requested to join the FB group! And after emailing the receipt to Crystal, she said to make sure to also send a copy of the Blue Card when I receive it. So apparently that'll be coming in the mail, hope it doesn't take too long.

Wooo, it must mean the interview is just a formality! We're in!! Haha but no I don't know anything about that... it's some nice fodder for wishful thinking anyway :) Actually I haven't read that, I'll have to go look it up.

I got an invite too! In terms of what to expect, I only have whatever was in the original invite email. And I'd be all for a Facebook group!

I haven't heard anything either! Does anyone know when we find out if we've been accepted? I just hope all my materials are good to go!

UTHealth Nursing Spring 2017
I made an account to post here because I'm applying for Spring '17 and really worried about if I can get in!! Overall GPA: 3.9 Pre-req GPA: 4.0 Science GPA: 3.83 HESI overall: 94 Reading: 92 Grammar: 96 Vocab: 100 Anatomy: 84 Math: 98 I have several years of CNA experience (home health & assisted living, not hospital), one study abroad medical internship and just a semester of hospital volunteering. I know UTH is competitive so I also applied to UH but I have absolutely no idea what my chances are! And I read on this thread that they want at least 85 on each HESI section so I wonder if I should re-take the HESI to get up my Anatomy score (84 ugh lol)
